Does anyone have any information regarding a good Cancer Treatment Center for Renal Cell Carcinoma. My brother is 46 and 2 yrs ago found out he had renal cell ca, He had the Kidney removed, , he had lymph node involment and also had a tumor wrapped around his aorta, This too was removed, he was on interferon and Thalidimide, it made him ill, but for 6 months his Ct scan was clear, now today he found out that a Ct scan done 2 days ago shows it is in the clavicle, mediastinum and in the lung. ( I know this is not good) but has anyone had any success with a cancer treatment center after being dx with the similar situation? Please contact me asap.

Thank You.[list][/list:u][/b]

Hi Donna,
I have a male friend 76 yrs old, who was dx with non-small cell lung cancer 5 yrs ago and had his right lung removed. A year later the cancer had spread to his left kidney and adrenal gland, upon which he transferred hospitals and went to the Moffitt Cancer Centre in Tampa, Florida. He had excellent treatment at the Moffitt, followed by one month in a rehab facility. He is now completely clear of cancer and looks about 60 yrs old.
The Moffitt is associated with the University of South Florida and has an excellent reputation for treating all kinds of cancer. I don't know where you live in the US, but I do recollect meeting a number of patients who had travelled to Florida for treatment, from Texas, Arizona etc. because they were advised locally that the best doctors for them were at Moffitt.
Moffitt have a website that may give you further information.
Hope this helps. Liz.

Dear Donna

Thanks for posting. Generally you can look for major cancer centers around the country and they will be good. Your brother will likely need chemotherapy for this, as this is metastatic disease. You can search NCI's website for more info: www.cancer.gov

best regards,
Leo

In Jan. '05, during an Emerg. Rm. visit to the hospital for suspected heart problems, we learned my husband had a tumor the size of a kidney attached to his left kidney. It had already spread to both lungs. The left kidney (and tumor) were removed immediately, and we thank God that there are no indications of any cancer in his right kidney, or any other organs but the lungs. We're in the chemo phase right now; he is visiting a cancer center in Raleigh, NC and takes avastin every week. It has begun to shrink some tumors, but not all, and there are no new tumors. Yesterday, the doctor suggested thalidomide in addition to the avastin, so we'll be starting that next week. In the meantime, I'm grateful to say that my husband has gained about 25 pounds (not fluid, just pure weight lol), looks wonderful and says he feels good. In spite of the good news so far, this disease has me on an emotional roller-coaster. Does anyone else feel this way?
