Hi Everyone,I need some advice on trying to find a natual product for helping with hot flashes. I found this in the health food store. My doctor had never heard of it and said if it didnt have any estrogen based bi-products it would be fine to try, but she knew nothing about it. She suggested effexor if I dont come up with another solution. I will be returning to work in a couple of weeks so I am trying to get this under control. I walk everyday but intent to exercise more once I can get more energy. I was told exercise helps. Just finished my last booster dose of radiation yesterday, what a great feeling to be done treatment. Strange thing now that I have had BC, and my hair is so, so short, so many people have come up to me that are BC survivors. One of my nurses at a place I had moles removed is a 17year survivor, another 14years and last was 2years. That was just last week. We do all need to band together to fight this horrible monster and stop it. Places like this are a good place to start, thanks for your help, God Bless, Hugs Susan

Hi,
Me personally won't use anything that isn't FDA approved or my onco hasn't recommended, but that's just me.
This is what I found on it and based on what it's made from, and what it does, which is works as a blood thinner, scares me. There isn't much info on it except for site that tell you to buy it from them.

Check out what it's made from. I've heard alot of women on Effexor for menopause systems. Chemo put me into menopause and I was on Tamoxifen and Effexor, and for me, it didn't help. Once I changed to Arimidex, I had no more hot flashes or night sweats. I went from Effexor to Paxil for depression mid treatment, so I'm assuming Tamoxifen was the culprit as far as menopause side affects. I'm sure you'll hear from other ladies that take Effexor as that's the most used med I've seen to combat hot flashes etc.

Lachesis Mutus
This homeopathic remedy comes from the poisonous venom of the bushmaster snake. Lachesis mutus has potent effects on the blood and central nervous system. The most important effect of Lachesis mutus is its blood-thinning, or anti-coagulant, function. This action enhances blood flow and facilitates the healing process by hastening the removal of toxins from the blood. The remedy is effective against many bleeding disorders. Lachesis mutus is prescribed for relieving depression, palpitations, migraines and other throbbing headaches, tonsillitis, anal fissures, hemorrhoids, rectal bleeding, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, prolonged menstrual periods, poor circulation, cold extremities, a swollen or inflamed tongue, and all types of skin ulcers and wounds. It is also used to ease menopausal symptoms.

Hi Nancy, Thanks for the information I have been unable to find out anything on this just wanted to try something with no chemicals but now not sure if I like what this does either. My doctor had no information good or bad on it. Maybe I will try to exercise more first, Good luck in Talledega , (is that a race ? ) Also, you are such a positive person I am sure the results will be fine, I wonder do we ever get past the worry and uncertainity of this dis-ease. My next checkups are not until August, then have 3 in a roll. Take care and have fun. Susan

Hi Susan,
It really surprised me when I saw it was made from venom of a poisionous snake....never expected to see that.

Yes, Talladega is where Nascar goes twice a year for racing. I'm a huge Kevin Harvick fan and I promised myself that I was going to start doing things I enjoyed after I finished up with treatment. It was last weekend and I had a great time. Never thought about cancer which is great. My driver missed the 25 car wreck they had, but was in the middle of the last wreck with only 2 laps to go. His car didn't quite look the same as it did and since the same driver caused both wrecks, I know mine wasn't happy, but he's learned not to say what's on his mind or it will cost him with money and points.

As far as your other question, no, I don't think we ever quit worrying. I will say that prior to my check ups, I don't start worrying until a few days to a week before, where in the beginning, I'd worry 2 months before and I saw him every 3 months. It does get easier, but unless they come up with a Cure or something we can take that is 99% (since nothing is 100%) affective in preventing reoccurences, we'll have that black cloud hanging over our heads. My onco did tell me that the 1st 2 years is a big milestone since most reoccurences happen within the 1st 2 years. He said by getting past that 2 year point shows that I wasn't chemo resistant and that my cancer wasn't real aggressive. It's been a little over 3 years now and we all know it can come back after 3, 5, 10, 15 or anytime it wants, I feel a little more relaxed about it and where I wouldn't plan anything in advance out of fear that it would come back, I have plans to be back in Talladega in Oct. for the 2nd race there of the season, so there does come a time that you start living again. I hope that helps. It may have happened sooner if not for going through a divorce the last 3 years at the same time of my dx and treatment and my ex still is playing his games and keeping me in court every 4 months..........Dirty cop, corrupt city equals nothing but trouble for me. He's a good con man that's for sure.

Anyway as usual I'm rambling. Take care and know all of this will get easier Smile
