I have finished my R-CHOP 14 (Rituxan, CHOP, at 14 day intervals) on 27th June 2008. I am interested to hear if anyone has the side effects that I have (as at 3 months after my last chemo):

frequent feeling of unreality as if I am not part of life - just watching it through a window

numb fingers and toes and soles of feet and surface of tongue,

no reflex arc in arms

weakness of hands

finger nails detaching (looks horrible)

watering puffy eyes (starting to improve a bit now I think)

baldness (obviously, but hair growing now - about half an inch long)

running nose (but drying up a bit now)

chemo brain - not too bad though compared to some I have read about

lost my eyelashes and brows but these are grown again now

new pubes and arm and leg hair growing again

still have pain at site of tumour (jejunum - just past stomach)

I cannot think of the rest right now..........

Hi Maggieoz. I am very sorry for all of your continued health issues.

First, your symptoms may not be all related to the same cause. Some (frequent feeling of unreality) are common to most of us. Some sound more neurological (numb fingers, no arm reflex, weak hands, chemo brain), some even sound like a sinus infection (runny nose, watering puffy eyes) but bottom line, you need to go to a doctor to have these sorted out.

You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Hi Maggie

I'm glad you posted that as I have been worried about my side effects also. My Toenails are dropping off at the moment, they are only hanging on by a thread but I don't have the guts to pull them off. So far my fingernails are still attached but they are very brittle. My skin is real itchy and I have a rash on my legs and arms. When I say itchy I mean real straight from hell itch that is impossible not to scratch. I have an exfoliation glove which means I can relieve the itch without scratching my skin and I would recommend this to anyone suffering this problem. My bowels slowed down and now I have to be careful what I eat or else I get constipated, something that never really bothered me before. I eat 3 pieces of fruit a day now and that helps ( I always have had a good diet, plenty of veggies and fish, but I wasn't good with the fruit).
My immune system seems OK as I have managed to avoid catching colds since I have been at work despite having been in contact with people who are sick. Thats about it, I did get a bit sweaty but like you I put it down to the warm weather coming on as summer is rapidly approaching In Adelaide.
I have had my scans this week and will see the doctor next week and I will mention all of this to him then. As soon as I have done that I will get back here and we can swap notes.
Chin up Maggie we will be OK, the rituxam really works Smile Please get back here if you need help, your story really got to me and you are very much in my thoughts

All the best with your scans
