I'm a 60 year old female who had a hysterectomy 30 years ago and was pronounced post menapausal 14 years ago (one ovary left from hysterectomy). Have had NO problems since hysterectomy.

Three weeks ago I woke up with cramping and when I stood up I had a vaginal discharge of old (very odorous) blood followed by red blood from the vagina. After spending all day at the ER and with a GYN, they still don't know where it's coming from or why. Since that time I've had blood work (ruled out the bladder and most everything else). Sonogram (1 week later) showed 1.9mg of fluid in the vaginal cuff and they had scheduled a sonogram to drain it and send to pathologist for the following Tuesday, but on Friday before it drained again as it did the first time.

The cramping has persisted and still no one has a clue as to why. Any ideas?

thanks for any help.

Hello

Vaginal bleeding in a postmenopausal patient can be a problem. I guess they are investigating pretty well. One concern is endometrial cancer, but I read you have no uterus. But some infections can cause an abscess and cause drainage that may look like dark material with some blood.

Other concerns would be vaginal cysts that drain and vaginal cancer. But you seem to be well served by your doctors.

I can only speculate why you are having this, but let us know if possible when they figure it out.

regards,
Leo
