My father was diagnosed last October with ALL. He went through Chemo and did great it was in remission. He has now had it come back and it is so bad the doctor was recommending that he not take treatments again. He got pneumonia a month ago and it has not completely left. He has a bad heart and they thought that if they did the chemo his pneumonia might come back and kill him or that the amount of chemo they would have to give hime would be too much for his heart. This ia not the problem for us. We have accepted this and love Dad verry much. He is totally blind and has not been able to see for many years. We are happy that after he dies he will have his sight back and will be with my brother, sister and grandfather who have all passed on. My question is what will he have to go through (pain, nose bleeds, brusing swelling). What all will happen to him before he dies and what can we do to help him feel comfortable?

rkfrates, I am so sorry about your father's cancer. My father died of ALL in Sept 2006 after a couple of years of not knowing. His last months were not easy on him but also not painful. He had heart problems too and with the ALL he just was too weak for almost any activities. He eventually died of an infection. His death was very peaceful. The infection just overwhelmed his system, kidneys failed, liver failed, and eventually he went into a coma-like state from which he never awoke. I was by his side during those last days.

Your father and you are in my thoughts and prayers.
