Hi,
I'm concerned about a few symptoms....
Before I start ...I'm 33 and I found a lump in my breast, had an ultrasound and mammo which found a cluster of cysts.
The radiologist felt that a biopopsy was not required.
It also showed a moderate swelling of the lymph nodes in my armpit approx 2.8 cm long and 8mm diameter which appeared to be non vascular hilum.
That was two weeks ago...and no further action would be taken.
Since then I have been driven crazy with itching.
So I went back to my doctor... I asked if these could be related and she asked my why and went on the say... no.
It looks like an allergic reaction.
So I guess my question is should I be worried or not?
The itching is all over my body from time to time but one area on my lower arm is driving me crazy it usally is the same place.
Plaes any advice would be wonderful,
Mother bear. |

If I were you, I'd get a second opinion and insist on a biopsy anyway.
The itching has been noted by other cancer survivors as a symptom.

Thanks for your reply Barbara
I'm thinking mybe another doctor would be the best bet also.
I really dont feel it is an allergy, as I haven't been in contact with anything new.
Thanks again,

I absolutely agree. I am just not getting it...why are these rad docs telling women to come back later or no biopsy necessary. Here you have a cluster of cysts and they are not very concerned??? This angers me somewhat. I say get a second opinion. No one is going to look out for you better than you will look out for yourself. That is my motto. Good luck and please let us know how things turn out. _________________ Where is the cure???

i understand the anxiety that condition can start. it sure is some relief to be told they are allergies (while you may have suspected for the worst). I agree, though with Cindy about getting a second opinion. it is always prudent. Whether or not, however, these are mere allergies or any sort more disturbing, the body's immune system is really the first line of defense if not really our defense of the first order against diseases of all kinds including those we dread. May i share with you this site on the body's immune system and its abilities to altogether protect or help the body recover throm such illnesses .

here's something more specific on allergies:

i hope you find this useful and helpful |

Thank you all for your relpies.
I beleive the radiologist wasn't concerned as the findings werent solid and therefore classified as "a cluster of cysts".
I was only aware of one lump.
As for the itching.. it continues but isn't as bad... it really seems to be bearable then come back as furious as ever.
As for the lymph node in my armpit ..I dont have a clue
I tried finding it after I had the ultrasound...armpits just seem lumpy to me
Take care,

Itching is so unbearable! I was told by someone that you should avoid scratching an itch. Instead, you should tap gently on the spot with the tips of the fingers. Apparently that satisfies the nerves.
Worth a go to relieve discomfort. |

I have been living with the itching ever since I first wrote this post.
I beleived the two different doctors when they said I was fine and not to worry.
Since then I have continued to itch on my forarm and now my neck, the axilla lymph nodes have not changed.
I was told it was caused by my now failing thyriod, but medicatition is not helping.
I seen a new GP last week as I feel so tired and unwell.
He has refered me to a breast surgeon, and I have an appiontment in three weeks.
He mentioned thicking and some indentation of my nipple.
He also believes I have had a breast infection for the past eight years as my breast milk never stopped and over the years has became an infection.
It 's now green and again I first spoke to a doctor about this six months after I stopped breast feeding.
The doctor said don't worry some womens milk just doesnt stop.
It isn't a continually flow and only expresses during some months of self breast exams.
I now feel completely stupid for believing the doctors that it was fine and for not noticing any indentation.
To be honest I still can't see it.
He doesn't want to start treating the infection until he knows what it is exactly.
As my immune system is not able to contain the infection anymore.
Hence the worsening rash, and the underactive thyriod ect.
Really needed to vent,
Thank all for allowing me too
Plaes take care |

Dear Mother Bear
Thank Goodness you have finally found a Dr that listens & seems to be "switched on". It's a shame you've had to put up with the awful itch for all this time & having become so unwell within yourself in the meantime!
I will keep you in my thoughts & prayers.
Please keep us updated on your progress with the surgeon.
God Bless,
Cheers, Angie. _________________ Brother diagnosed with GBMIV Feb 07

Hi - It underlines my belief that if you feel something is wrong, do not allow the doctors to override you! My doctor told me I had developed asthma when what I had was fluid-build up in the lungs as metastasis of breast cancer. It was my insistence on having an X-ray that led to diagnosis.
I do hope that now you will receive proper attention and care. And don't hesitate to argue if you are not convinced. |
