so, surgery is booked for next week. Things have been kind of going down hill over the past couple of weeks. Not sure if it is health wise, but mentally and otherwise. Its been pretty scary at times. Not sure if it is stress related or pressure related. I am finding it very hard at times. I wonder how many other spouses, caregivers etc take being the brunt of someones anger, and how they deal with it. Any suggestions?

Dear Sarah
I was very sorry to read your distressing post about your Husband's current condition. I am relieved to hear the surgery will be next week, & although the prospect of surgery can be daunting I am sure this is the best option for your Husband at this time.
With his current symptoms it is most likely pressure in the brain, I remember a period last year when my Bro - Mark - had similar problems & he required surgery almost immediately.
I feel for you darling as I remember how distressing this was for our Mark's wife Kath when he was in a "bad way" with his brain tumour deficits, last year.
I can sense your worry & concern & am sending you a big hug. How is your little one doing? You are in my prayers & thoughts.
I look forward to hearing an update after your Husband's surgery.
Cheers, Angie. _________________ Brother diagnosed with GBMIV Feb 07

Thank you for your response and support Angie, its a very emotional time right now, and unfortunately my little one is not dealing with it well. I finally had a matter of fact talk with her today to answer her questions. I didnt go into too much, but I think it eased some tension.
I am very relieved to read your post, I was not sure if these new symptoms would be the tumor or not, so it is reassuring to read that that it is probable.
Thank you so much!

Sarah, as you probably know, I am not only a cancer survivor but was also the primary care provider to both of my parents during their struggle with and eventual death due to cancer. Both the physical and the emotional stresses can be overwhelming. All of use have our own coping mechanisms for normal life stress. I can tell you that I was not equipped to deal with caring of my parents. I sought support from anyone willing to offer it to me. I even started back into counseling with a licensed therapist in order to identify new and better ways to deal with my stress. _________________ Jim

| You are so right Jim. The first time around, I never looked for help, nor did I accept it when offered. This time seems much harder, so I have accepted help wherever I can find it. I am going to see a counselor for the first time on Monday. It is hard to deal with the feelings, and emotions going through here right now. I feel like a failure as a parent, as a caregiver, and a spouse. I know that I shouldn't, but I do. We are trying to take each thing 1 step at a time, because really, if we try harder then that we wont have the energy to face whats next. |

Sarah, I am so sorry that you are having to deal with this. My hope is that the upcoming surgery will really make a difference for you and your husband. I don't have any suggestions to offer you, but wanted you to know that my heart goes out to you. _________________ Amy (39)

Dear Sarah
Oh Gosh! I am sorry to hear the surgery has been postponed. I hope this is because yr Husband's deficits have improved?
I have only just realised my Bro & your Husband are both at similar stages (don't worry we are a bit slower here DOWN UNDER!!) with a cyst surrounding their tumours. Mark was also told to wait 2 mths to see if the cyst disappears on it's own. He will wait until the end of June now.
I will hold you & your Husband up to our Lord, along with my Bro in my prayers, until you receive wome good news.
God Bless

Angie,
I hope the end of this month brings good news for your brother! We found out last week that my husband's cyst 'deflated' on its own, so no surgery for now. More waiting and seeing.
I will be praying for good news for you guys too!
All the best!

Sarah, this IS very good news!!! I know that the waiting an all the follow-ups can be very stressful. However, it is wonderful that the cyst problem resolved itself. We celebrate with you. _________________ Jim
