So crisis averted, surgery canceled as cyst drained on own. I saw the new scan and I am not sure, but on the top of the brain, under the skull, was an area that was white. It was not there before (we were comparing scans for the cyst). I was going to ask the surgeon, and then for some reason, didnt. They didnt mention it, but I am wondering if it is scar tissue from the radiation 6 years ago? Could it be another tumor? Surely they would have said something if it was a tumor...

Sarah, I too have some areas that still glow on my scans. My surgeon told me that is was scar tissue. I am sure that if it was a tumor, your doctor would have noticed it and wanted to do a biopsy of it. Still, next time you have a chance, I would ask him about it... just to ease your own mind.

Thanks Jim, I will ask at the next appointment. What can scar tissue do in regards to changes in a persons behavior, mood and thought process? Im sure it would have a lot to do with where the scar tissue is, but can it make significant changes?

Hi Sarah,
It's probably a really good idea to ask to be on the safe side. Since they didn't bring it up it may very well be nothing, but at my husbands July scan last year, they saw something and told us it was most likely scar tissue - then after he had his seizure they scanned again and discovered it was a regrowth of the tumour. Very little growth, but enough to cause a grand mal seizure.
They did also tell us, however, that scar tissue can cause seizures as well if they cause irritation to the brain - so it may cause other problems depending on the location, but Jim is right, once they are there they don't really 'grow' more, creating more new problems.
