Hi Everyone!

I have breast cancer, but I read that this chemo regimen is primarily used for colon cancer.

Has anyone had MLF Chemo (Methotrexate/Leucovorin/5-FU)?
Any Side Effects - Did you have hair loss, nausea, diarrhea, etc.?

My medical onc recommended this regimen because of my bladder disease and nerve damage and muscle weakness.

Need to know your comments on this.

The Methotrexate is not used in colorectal cancer. but the 5-FU/Leucovorin is used either by itself or with one or two of five other agents (oxaliplatin/irinotecan/avastin/erbitux/one other can't remember). Like breast cancer, xeloda (pill form of 5-fu that does not need leucovorin) is used as an alternative to 5-fu. Hair loss is not a common side effect of 5-fu, but gi problems are, whether it be diarrhea or constipation. Hand/Foot syndrome, nausea, and blood count problems are also common. Personally, I have had all of these - but at the same time, I know several people who have had none.
Like anything else, you need to do everything that you can to keep up the strength, which translated means to eat and drink, which translated means that if nausea becomes a problem, get the medications necessary to alleviate it. Sometimes finding the right one takes several tries.
