Hi I am very worried at the moment, my father passed away with cancer of the esophagus 2 years ago, and his mother had throat cancer. For a couple of months now I have had recurrent acid reflux, and difficulty when my food goes down. I am overweight, and so thought this maybe causing my reflux, I am taking antacid tablets, and my doctor prescribed omeprazole to see how I get on. I am trying not to get too paranoid about this, as the GP said Id be losing weight if anything wasnt quite right. Im wondering if it could be helicobacter infection?/barrets esophagus or something more sinister. I have not broached this with my GP as yet, but I spoke to a friend today who said I should get a second opinion. I am so worried as I have kids, and I am 46, on my own, without much support from family, and I saw the pain and suffering my father went through. Any advice would be great. Thank you.

eastender,

Even Large people can have Cancer. I think you should get a second opiouin too. What is it going to hurt if you do. They may even be able to work out why you are having the reflux (poor you- my son has it bad- so know how it is). Then you'll have some peace from your bad thoughts and worries for a while- anyway.
