Hello to all.. I am new to all this and I am worried... I am a 33 yr Non-smoker, never smoked a day in my life., but was raised with my parents smoking and my husband smoked for the first 3 years we were together. and recently I have been really sick.. I was sick for 3 weeks at home being treated by my primary doctor, till all medications he was using wasnt working, then he directed admitted me to the hospital. I was there for 13 days only first to be told that I was there with Congestive Heart Failure... and while doing all the test for that, they discovered that I have several non-calcified nodules in both my llower lobs of my ungs that measure between 5mm-7mm. According to the doctors, they told me that there is not any type of test or biopsy that they can do on them beings they are smaller than 1 cm....
I was told by the Pulmaonary doctor in the hospital that I had to wait 6 months to be tested again to see if they are malignant or not. Which to anyone that is pure torture to have to wait 6 months, so I them consulted another Pulmanary doctor and he is willing to test them in 3 months... but I am worried with my problems with my heart. Both doctors told me that beings I have never smoked, that it is possible that I have nodules some place else in my body that has traveled to my lungs. They also told me that it doesnt look like any type of blot clots or scaring.. which makes me worry even more...Is it possible that I am over reacting or should this be something I should worry about.
I have contacted Mary Bird Cancer Center here in my town because, my father in law recently passed away with cancer and it started out nodules in his lungs, so they have set me up with a consult with the doctor and to schedule a Pet ecan.
If you have any advise, please give it to me.. because, not only an I driving myself nuts over this with worry, but it is effecting my husband and my children.[/b] |

Hi Snuggles70739. I am very sorry about your current health concerns. At this point, I am sure you are worried and field with more questions than anyone can answer. Be assured that many of us have been where you are.
I sort of understand why they cannot do a biopsy on those nodes. The odds of getting a false negative is very high on very small spots. Also, if it was a blood clot or scar, they would be able to see that easily.
Having said that, I believe the course of action you have planned is right on the money. If it is any type of Cancer, the spots will glow brightly during the PET scan. I do hope that it is not cancer and certainly not metastatic cancer, which is what your doctor thinks it might be.
You are in my thoughts and prayers. Keep us informed. _________________ Jim

| Thank you... it is just hard to try and put on this happy go lucky face in front of my children, when only one of four really knows what is going on... my 15 yr... she is wanting to quit basketball which she is awesome at because she wants to spend as much time with me... I keep trying to tell them that I am fine and that there is nothing to worry about.. but deep down, it is all building inside... and gosh.. my poor husband... I do everything, grocery shopping and since Ihave been home from the hospital, I have been pretty much on bed rest, so he went shopping the other day... with me being in my worried-negative state of mind, I just went off on him for the things he bought because I didnt think it was completely suitable for the kids to eat as a meal... and in my mind I thought I was trying to prepare him for the huge "WHAT IF"..... but he is remaining strong, thank god, because if it wasnt for him, I would have already gone off the deep end.... THanks for the prayers.. and i will keep you posted on the results.... |

Hello Snuggles
I am sorry to hear of your current situation with "worry a plenty"! Too much for one person, & the wait & see approach will require all of your strength, patience & hope. You are in my prayers & thoughts.
I had a serious illness in 2005 & was bedridden for 6mths or more, my Husband took up the responsibilities (as best he could) with our 2 boys. It was an emotional time - I too "blew up" over issues like grocery, washing, cooking, etc. My SO (husband) didn't like it & used to get very defensive, telling me he was coping as best he could in a bad situation. All I can say is try to "let go" & defuse these situations as best you can. You will need someone to talk to (other than family) about your anxieties & suggest you seek a counsellor (ask at the Cancer center).
No doubt this will be a challenging time for you & I pray you will find a way to balance all of these stresses & "don't sweat the little things"!
Cheers, Angie. _________________ Brother has GBMIV

Snuggles,
I'm sorry to hear about these nodules, but am glad you are pursuing this issue and not sitting still waiting.
I notice you keep referencing being a non-smoker and, while this may come as a shock, almost 20% of new diagnoses for lung cancer are never smokers. Many, many people wrongly assume that they are immune because they don't smoke. It is good to be vigilant about non-calcified nodules. A PET scan should reveal some of what is going on and I dearly hope it is just nodules with no activity. It's truly is better to jump on this and get the answers you need so you don't have this ongoing fear and worry. Sometimes nodules are just nodules and they sit and do nothing.
I know how worried you are, who wouldn't be? Please try to calm down, if at all possible, for your own sake as well as your husband and children. Hope for the best and take care of your heart issues.
I will keep you in my thoughts for the best possible results of your PET scan.
Very best wishes,
