Okay. I am a 20 year old female and I used to smoke for a about year and I quit in September 2007. The reason I quit smoking is one day I looked at my mouth in the mirrow and I had developed white patches in my throat where my tonsils used to be (got them removed at age 15). Also, I had a thick white coating on my tongue. None of this was painful but cause me alarm so I quit smoking that brand of cigarettes. I was stupid and switched from Marlboro lights to Newports thinking that this would somehow change my situation. The coated tongue went away instantly, but the white patches remained. These patches first appeared in either April or May of 2007 and are still here but are now accompanied by other symptoms. It doesn't help that I am a worrier so some things may be caused by that also. A couple of months ago, I felt what I thought was a swollen lymph node on the left side of my neck. It was bean-sized which they say is normal and it didn't hurt at all. My friend( who is a nurse) told me that since I was thin, some lymph nodes are easily felt on me and doesn't neccessarily mean they're swollen. Also, around the same time I felt the node, I noticed a hard lump or sore on next to one of the white patches. It hasn't gone away but at the same time is painless. The roof of my mouth is now discolored with yellow, white, and occasionally red spots appear and disappear in the roof of my mouth ( the most recent occurance being last week). I started developing more sores in random places in my mouth (none that hurt), and some go away quickly and while others remain. Also, my throat is dark red. It is sore quite often and I was given some antibiotics for a possible sinus infection, but my sore throat remains. Also, I eat mostly organic food and noticed when I eat unhealthy or drink milk, I feel weird and my tongue turns yellow afterwards. So about a week ago, I did the dumbest thing...I was stressing about a test a school and smoked half a pack of cigarettes in about 2 hours. Now there are more swollen lymph nodes in my neck and shoulders and even one on my groin and are all very painful. This happened immediately after smoking the next day I get shooting pains up my sides sometimes and also feel numbness in my jaw. Oh and I have lockjaw on the right side. . Sometimes I feel pressure in my head and the base of my neck is as hard as a rock. The muscles at the base of my neck feel almost as if they've been frozen. Tell me if this sounds like cancer because I have an appointment with a throat doctor next week and I guess I just wanna be prepared. Oh..Sorry for bein so long...got a lot on my mind especially with finals coming up!

Oliver8, you should really go see your doctor. There are many things besides cancer that could be causing your symptoms but no one can diagnose you. Go as soon as possible to your GP or ENT to be checked out.

One possibility is that part of your tonsils have grown back and are infected.

Keep us informed.
