im sorry that your going through the chemotherapy and as a Colan cancer victim and survivor I can tell you that the effects of chemotherapy aren't going to get any worse than they already are.
The numbness( sometimes there's sensitivity to cold too ) will go away when you finish the chemotherapy. I wish you luck in the up and coming treatments. |

dpotter, I am so sorry about your cancer. Back in 1992 when I was taking chemotherapy, I got neuropathy to me toes. But I understand that is not what Oxiplantin does since it is reversible. Once you stop taking it, you should see those symptoms gradually disappear. _________________ Jim

HI again dpotter -
5fu is the chemo treatment I was getting with the radiation.
I got really bad mouth sores on it and it went down my throat and I lost my voice, this was the second week of taking it - so they had to stop.
My advice - right now go out and buy a really soft toothbrush and use this toothpaste called biotene (I think, I will double check the name) it is for dry mouth - but it is better than regular toothpaste, because the things in regular toothpaste can irritate your mouth and bring the sores on faster.
I felt a few little sores in my mouth and wish I had gone to doing this - also with salt water gargles before the sores got really bad.
Once the sores got bad they put me on a solution called KLACKS - I was not impressed with this stuff - it stung so much. If you do have the sores happen to you - ask for a prescription of "GELCLAIR" - this is a nice gel that you water down a bit and it really numbs everything so it is less sore.
I was on applesauce, icecream and soup it hurt so bad to eat.
The good news - it only took one week to get rid of it once they stopped, then they reduced the dose by 10% and I was doing great on it.
It was an infection in my port that stopped the chemo for the second time for me!
Anyway if you watch out for the symptoms and catch them early maybe you can get the dose reduced before they take you off it.
I am glad they are treating you with something else, I am still mad that I could not get chemo back, as I want the most agressive treatment to KICK IT WHERE IT WILL NEVER RETURN!!!
Good luck

Hi DulcimerGal,
I have been taking a litlle 5FU when I was doing the mix, so my throat is already a little ripped up.
Thanks for the advice for the moth sores, I will be very gentle with my mouth.
I am just now feeling better from the Oxiplantain, and am glad I will be off of it.
I will let you know how the 5FU goes on Monday... _________________ 1/11/08 - Removal of Stage III Colon Cancer
