I had an MRI on my brain Friday evening. I was told that it would take a week to get the results. For those of you that had a tumor detected on an MRI, did they notify your doctor immediately? Is no news good news? Please share how long it took. I am a wreck waiting. Thank you.

Hi jeffiner,
When my husband had the first MRI we were asked to wait at the imaging center. His doctor called us at the center and told us then that he had a large brain tumor and to go to the hospital ASAP. He was admitted within the hour and operated on the next day.
You can ask for the films.
As we sat waiting for the doctor to call i looked at the films and it was very clear that there was something amiss.
Good luck to you,

I have had 6 MRIs, I have received calls anywhere from same day to one week. Sometimes the neurosurgeon that reads the scan is in surgery. I would call the doctor that ordered the MRI if you do not here something soon just to remind them you are waiting on the results. _________________ http://cancerforums.net/viewtopic.php?t=8806 |

Thank you. I will call today and see if they have gotten the results yet. It is my GP that ordered the test. It is just so hard to wait when you feel like such junk.

Jennifer, the MRI results are available almost immediately at my doctor's office because they are connected via computer to the imaging center. This is not the case in all situations. If your GP has to wait for the report to be dictated, written, checked, and faxed to him/her, it might take several days. However, if the radiologist sees something that needs immediate attention, he/she will call your GP. It truly is a case of "no news is good news." _________________ Jim

Thank you. So it probably means that they didn't find anything that needed immediate attention....or maybe nothing at all.

I just got the results in the mail. They were normal. I am frustrated that I still don't know what is wrong, but very relieved that they found nothing. Thank you for your replies. I wish you the best and recovered health of you and loved ones. Jennifer

Jennifer, I am very happy that the MRI did not show a tumor. I know that still leaves you without knowing what is causing your symptoms. Keep working with your medical team to identify the cause.
Best wishes to you. _________________ Jim
