The laws have been passed in 25 of the 50 states to mandate insurance companies to pay for colon cancer screening. I know when I was 37 and in terrible abdominal pain; i was sent for an ultrasound. nothing showed up. Then, at 41, I went to the bathroom and it hurt so bad; the only thing that came out was blood. I was diagnosed 7 weeks later after the primary care and gastroenterologist told me I had nothing to worry about. I just don't understand why doctors do not want to order colonoscopies. They all tell me insurance would not have covered it when I was 37.

dmsteach, I hear your anger and disappointment at not being diagnosed 4 years ago. While I also thing earlier screening should be done, I really think your doctors blew it by not doing the exam back then because YOU where having symptoms of colon cancer. I do not agree with your doctors that your insurance would not have paid. If they would not pay, you have a poor insurance. In any event, that was YOUR decision to make and not your doctors. You had the right to be fully informed and to have the option to have the colonoscopy done even if you had to pay for it yourself.

I am not too sure if an ultrasound would have shown polyps or cancer. It would have show gallbladder problems. But after the ultrasound did not show anything, they should have at least offered to do a colonoscopy.

Anyhow, need to get off of my soapbox Embarassed. Have you had the colonoscopy done? If not, go to another doctor. Opps, there I go again Razz.

You are in my thoughts and prayers.
