Hi,

Has anyone had to have any vaccinations after finishing chemotherapy? I've been in remission for just over a year and I went for my check up last week and my consultant said I needed to have all my childhood vaccinations again. I just wondered whether anyone else had found this and knows which ones I'll probably have to have?

Thanks

Hi lorz25, I have never hear of someone getting their childhood vaccinations again after getting cancer. I do know that cancer patients are included in the list of high priority cases for the flu vaccine and the pneumonia vaccine. Maybe your doctor thinks that one of your childhood vaccines did not create any antibodies. I seem to remember someone needing to take the measles vaccination again latter in life but my memory is not what it used to be.

Hi,

People who have had stem cell transplant using a donor other than your self (allogeneic) may need a round of vaccinations. However, if you have an autogolous transplant like I had you will not need one but I have never heard of needing vaccinations after chemo.
