Hello everyone.

I wanted you all to know that mother is only being treated with a hormone blocker, and though she is doing well, her oncologist felt that the now shrunken lump should be removed. However, the surgeon disagrees and mother is happy about this. She is 74 years old and does not want to lose her breast! Rolling Eyes I'd rather she has the surgery, but it's not my body. They told her she could continue taking the hormone blocker for up to 5 years. I guess between now and 80 she might have died from lots of other things, so she figures why push for surgery and chemo?

Anyone else done this and were happy with the decision?

BTW, they have done numerous scans and the apparently the cancer did not spread to the bones as was first feared.

I am not the same age as your mother - though not far behind - and can well understand her decision.

I refused surgery [metastases already so could not see any advantages], but do go with chemo when necessary to control development. Have been on tamoxifen for the past two years, but it is no longer working well so some kind of intervention is now on the cards.

My comment would be that it is a waiting game and one in which one must have patience and persistence.
