hey guys.
i have a lump behind my ear and have had it for around a month. I looked it up because well, I always look stuff up haha. And lymphoma was a possible problem so i became like really worried about it. I developed a low fever and itched and stuff but i'm not sure if i worried so much I developed the symptoms or actually had them. Neutral (i'm dumb, apparently.)
Anyways, I'm worried about it but my mom won't take me to the doc or anything cause she never thinks anything is wrong. it's annyoing tbh. and I'm not a hypochondriac really-i only ever go to the doctor for physicals or shots and i don't complain about something unless i'm really worried about it.
i guess i jsut have a bad feeling about it. =/
anyway, the lump is hard and immobile and i'm 14 (15 in like, 25 days).
i know for sure a symptomish is that during the summer and into about midseptember my legs killed when i went to bed. Sometimes i'd even wake up with one leg swollen. :\
um, any advice or help?

thanks!

PS: I wasn't sick when i developed the swollen node. Heck, i didn't even know it was a lympth node until i told my mom. Neutral

Woahxx, there are many things that can cause a node to become enlarged. Cancer is certainly one of them. But infections can also make a node swell. There are other things as well.

I am sorry that your mother will not take you to see a doctor because that is the only way to know for sure. Does your school have a nurse that could check the node for you?

I did split off your post from its original topic so that others can reply to you without hijack the original topic.

Good luck and keep us informed.

thanks.
I'll try really hard to convince my mom because my school nurse is kind of mean and whacky. And i've only been to the school nurse once in my life haha.
and that's cool that you split it.
and i'll be sure to keep you informed.

PS: My mom said she wants to have my aunt who's a neonatologist check it but quite frankly i am not an infant haha. Hopefully my aunt will tell her to take me to the doctors but i'm not really counting on it because my aunt is just like my mom. =/ (shell probably forget to have my aunt check it anyway. Neutral)

but thanks again for your reply.

There are tons of possiblitys to why a lymph node/s could be swollen and the majority of the time it is always infection. But the possibility of cancer is always there so its best to have this checked by a medical professional just to make sure.

Regardless if your school nurse is a bit whacky as you say, Its best to see her anyway. If she suspects anything she can always inform your mum.

Its hard to get adults to take you seriously sometimes, Try sitting down with your mum and saying your really concerned about it and that the only way your going to be able to put it to rest is if you see a doctor.

Keep us updated, and best of luck to you.

hi again.
Um, I still haven't gone to the doctor or anything but I figured i'd semi update you guys cause I hate when people leave me hanging.
I just stopped worrying about the node (which is still there obviously) and a lot of the wierd symptoms went away so that was clearly psychological.
Like 2 weeks (ish) ago I couldn't eat without being sick after so thst sucked. But that stopped about eh i don't know a week ago? That time doesn't sound right but you get my drift.
And for the past like...month probably i've been getting sharp pains on my right side equal/just below my ribs. Like, they most they last is normally only a minute and they come and go.
And now lately it's like, felt wierd in the middle of my stomach. Like below my ribs obviously. It's hard to describe. Kinda pressure I guess but not I guess.
And those aren't psychological cause I gave up on freaking out.

Stress/Worry can make you feel terrible. And you will more than likely continue to feel anxious until you see a doctor, The right side of the upper abdomen below the diaphragm is where the liver sits.

The problem with lymphoma seems to be the symptoms are very broad. Fevers and night-sweats happen in almost any other infection/disease. It is far more likely (statistically) that you have just had a infection. But unfortuently there is only so much advise somebody can give you over the internet. For a diagnosis/treatment of your problem seeking professional medical advise is imperative.

alright so i went to the doctor earlier today.
node has nothing to do with anything at all haha.
but my liver is enlarged and i'm going to get a sonogram and xray of my abdomen tonight.
He said it could be a kidney infection but my mom doesnt think so (she's a nurse midwife).
And he said hopefully it's gallstones or something.
so if i do be random chance have cancer.
i didn't get lucky with lymphoma. Neutral

PS: I'M SO HUNGRY. I haven't eaten since 5pm last night and i was all set on eating lunch then BAM you need a sonogram at 5 you can't eat.

I'm glad you made a doctors appointment, And i am also glad that the doctor is taking precautions, What exactly did he say about the node? If he suspects a kidney infection i wonder why he didnt draw some blood to check you're liver/kidney functions?

Hope everything goes well, And please post any updates you get.

Best wishes,
umbleweed.

he said that the node was very small and nothing to worry about.
and i don't know why they didn't draw blood. I figured they would.
they did a urine test and from that my white cell count was 500.
