My husband had 2 surgeries for an enlarged prostate. His PSA has been pretty normal - under 4.0. After the last surgery, a biopsy was done. We were very surprised when the "C" word came into the conversation. The doctor has been monitoring him for almost a year without doing any treatment. Everything has been low key. When doing some estate planning, my husband was denied additional insurance because of the prostate cancer. My husand quizzed the doctor during our last visit, and he said that he has a mid-level cancer. I wasn't in the room so I didn't get an explanation beyond "mid-level cancer." The doctor said that he feels comfortable just monitoring him for now. But he said that a lot of people would be doing a more aggressive treatment. He said that if the cancer gets out of the prostate area, there is no treatment. During that same visit, the doctor mentioned a new treatment that is done in Canada or Dominican Republic called HIFU. Is anyone familiar with this treatment? We go back for his next check-up in 2 months. My husband is 60. He works out a couple of times a week at the Y and golfs every Friday afternoon. He is at a good weight. The only other health problem he has had is high cholesterol (family history). He has always been athletic and healthy. One thing that I've noticed in the last year or so is that his coloring isn't exactly right. He has a yellow tint to his skin. Is this a symptom of prostate cancer? Any comments will be appreciated.

To answer some of your questions:

You need full diagnosis details.

" Just monitoring for now" might be applicable in some instances, depending on the diagnosis.

"If the canceer gets out of the prostate area there is no treatment". That statement is not correct as there are treatment options available for advanced PC..

"A new treatment that is done called HIFU". HIFU is regarded as new in USA, although it has been used for some years in Europe and other countries for some years. It could be worth consideration depending on the situation.

"He has a yellow tint to his skin". This is not a symptom of PC. It is more usually related to jaundice/disorder of the liver.
