I need some advice.
For over a year now I have had constant rectal pain and pressure. It feels like I am sitting on a golf ball. This feeling is constantly on my mind.

At 33 y.o., I went to see my gp at onset of symptoms, and they thought it was prostatitis. At the time I also had urinary urgency and burning. My prostate was enlarged and boggy. The urinary urgency and burning went away after a week, but the rectal pain and pressure remain.

I recently had a colonostopy done, it was negative, with the exception of internal hemorrhoids. A cat scan of my abdomen and pelvis was also negative.

Last week I went to the urologist. He did not physically examine me (d.r.e.), but he went with the year old diagnosis of prostatitis, and prescribed proscar and levoquin. He is looking at my bladder next week.

I wondered if anyone else has experienced rectal pain and pressure with prostatitis or prostate cancer, without any ongoing urinary symptoms? I'm thinking that if my prostate is so large and tender, shouldn't it be blocking urine too? But I am having no urgency, and no trouble starting my stream.

Thanks!

I would be concerned if my uro went with a year old dx and didn't even perform a dre. You also don't mention your previous or current psa levels. PSA is a very important starting point in treating prostate related maladies including PC. At the very least you should get a psa test and if that is out of the normal range a freePSA test would be the next logical step.

There is surely a great chance you do not have PC at all, and it is good to see that you are taking an interest in your care. Hang in there.

I took the full course of the Levoquin, and I am on my second month of proscar. I really am feeling better, but I think it had a lot to do with a fungal infection and not a bacterial infection. I started taking a high dose pro-biotic a week after my course of the antibiotic, and not too long after realized that I was not hurting any more.

I had a trans-rectal ultrasound which showed some calcification from the infection. The bladder scope showed nothing. I am continuing the pro-biotic, and continuing symptom free 1 month later.

I wish you all the same recovery.
