Hi,

My mom was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer that has spread to her lungs. They had surgery yesterday, removing what they said was the equivalant of a quart of cottage cheese size tumor. It had passed through the colon creating a spot on the lungs, but not any lymph nodes.

My question is....is she still at a stage four (they hope to get the spot on the lungs with chemo), and what is her overall prognosis?

Thanks

Hi littlelake, I am very sorry about your mother's diagnosis. I am not very familiar with staging of colon cancers. However, I do think that it is still a Stage IV cancer even though there is no lymph node involvement. I say this because it has spread to a "distant organ." There is a diaphragm between the colon and the lungs. That diaphragm makes to boundary between the chest and the abdomen. So the cancer has moved from her lower torso to her upper torso. I think that would make it a stage IV. However, you should as her medical team about this.

You and your mother are in my thoughts and prayers.
