Hi All, could I ask for a couple of things?

1. No ads... even if it is free it can still be thought of as an ad.
2. A little civility. Try to understand each other and have compassion for each other. This thread does seem to be degenerating into a "wizzing contest".

Thank you for your participation in The Cancer Forums.

I think it's quite interesting how a cancer diagnosis can bring out both the best in us and the worst in us.

I was diagnosed with an extremely rare sarcoma last June (less than 500 total cases world-wide, over 75% dead). I went through one (of six prescribed) cycles of chemo and had a very bad reaction to it, so I quit. I immediately began several "alternative" therapies that had significant peer-reviewed research found on NCI's PubMed website backing them up--so these weren't "fly-by-night" therapies at all, just not mainstream chemo.

I shared what I was doing with my peers on the Sarcoma Alliance bulletin board and was called "irresponsible" and attacked for sharing my story. The backlash from me sharing my story got so bad that I would get private "off board" messages from some of the most ugly, unhappy, and ignorant people--just because I chose a different path than them. It was truly a depressing time for me. Some of these same people are gone now, but I am still here and feeling great. I am currently NED (no evidence of disease) and I attribute it all to the decisions I made for myslef.

I don't think it's my duty to question what anyone feels is the proper way to treat themseleves; just as they should not feel it's their duty to question mine. We all are different bodies, with different cancers which can respond quite differently to the same treatments. So, while I continue to share my story with others, I also support others on their own paths to wellness. We should all do the same.

It is always a problem - the viciousness with which both sides can react is appalling. However, I do feel it is because there are "snake-oil salesmen" out there who are promoting products that in fact do not have any effect, and people are resentful at the possibility (or the fact) of being taken for a ride, paying large sums of money for ineffective treatments. Very understandable.

However, if someone has seriously followed a regime that seems effective, it is interesting to know what that regime was. After all, Michael Tosh-Gearson survived for a number of years, having followed Gerson's theories.

Rare cancers are so outside the norm that I would have thought anything that seemed to work might be of interest.

Congratulations on being NED!

Vee

You are absolutely right about those "snake-oil salesmen" who push products that are completely useless. I, too, made some of these foolish purchases at first. But soon, I realized (with help from my nutritional oncologist) that it was really up to me to take control of my situation and learn as much as I could about my type of sarcoma and the methods of action of various substances--both traditional chemotherapy drugs and the phamacokinetic "alternatives".

It took a while (and lots of visits to various online medical encyclopedias) to understand some of the basic terms used in the oncological world. But then I was able to take my newfound knowledge and understanding and apply it to my specific condition by thoroughly exploring NCI's PubMed website and many other peer-reviewed research websites. I began by taking a potential therapy and running it through these resources for verification. If they had the research backing (albeit often only in cell lines or animal subjects, but occasionally in human subjects) I would discuss it with my oncologist and nutritional oncologist before considering it for myself.

Given the rarity of my diagnosis, the options for treatment are severely limited; so, often, I felt like I had little to loose when considering these thoroughly-researched alternatives. However, sourcing the therapy was the biggest challenge. I always looked for those companies that hired third-party independent analysis to be performed for purity, and potency. I also avoided those companies that looked hoakey or added lots of hyped overstatements of the potential effectiveness of the therapy to their websites. If they look like they were trying too hard to make a sale, it usually turned me off.

So far, it looks like I've made some wise decisions.

I hope that my experience will help others like me find a path to follow that works best for them.

Hi all
I'm new here and wasn't sure if this was the right place to start, didn't see any introductory thread..

I was diagnosed end of Dec 06 with testicular cancer. Within two weeks of symptoms I went for an op and had the infected testicle removed. I was advised to go for three courses of chemo to knock out any possibility of any cancer cells having slipped through but being opposed to the 'slash, burn or poison technique' I opted for a natural approach.

I started a healthy routine for about two months but was eventually convinced to go for a cat scan (early March). The scan revealed metastasis to the lungs and abdomen with the colon possibly being infected too and was subsequently forced to go for chemo but again declined this. My oncologist stated that I would start noticing symptoms six months from that point and would certainly die without doing chemo. It is now nearly November with no symptoms and a very low alpha feta protein count. I recently went for another scan which revealed that I had won some ground with the colon but that my lung tumours had tripled in size (around 9 cm now).

Realising that healthy eating was not going to do it I did some more research and discovered the power of apricot kernels (B17). Too cut it short I am now on a simple programme which will most definitely work which consists of NONONONO, apricot kernels, NO MARKETING HERE, epsom salt baths and drinking three litres of pure water per day with the purpose of detoxying and building my immune system which will ultimately win the battle. This will take me approx. two months from start to finish to be totally clear. I will then stay on a maintenance dose of apricot kernels.

This programme is fairly inexpensive but most important of all is that I avoid dangerous drugs which will only jeapordise my health. I believe that any cancer can be beaten naturally..

I will update my progress on this site.

Oliver, I am very sorry about your cancer and I do wish you health. There is a reason why apricot kernels are not in wider use: they contain cyanide compounds that are highly toxic. To my knowledge, no one has even done a scientific study on them to assess their effectiveness against cancer. My advice is to take them with caution but don't fool yourself; you are taking something that is at least as toxic as chemotherapy.

Best wishes.

There are many nutrients that actually help the body to fight off cancer due to them supercharging the immune system.

If you think about it, why are some people that use nutrients or raw foods able to fight off their cancer? The reason is that they boost their immune system, because that is exactly what kills cancer cells.

My mother specifically used glyconutrients, and she was able to fight off the cancer.
