Well, it's about that time again...to go back to school. I'm a PE/Health teacher, and I've been on FMLA for my mom for the past 4 weeks...I can sort of "hear" my wonderful mom saying, "get back in there and do what you do best...and remember that I'm with you all the way"...I'm afraid that I'll go back on Wednesday and have a breakdown right there in front of my students. I'm panicking b/c the last time I was at school, my mom was alive and doing relatively well----and now, she's not here with me, and I just don't know if I can do it---I'm really apprehensive and afraid. Will I have the strength that it takes to be firm and in control?? ...or will I just not care anymore?? I need you guys right now!! Can anyone relate? _________________ ...keeping the faith in n.c.

Yes.
But you are right. You do have to start to do everyday things again, and the only thing to do is take a deep breath and concentrate on your students.
Good luck with the first day back, and keep in touch if you want to vent. |

Vee--The first day went pretty well...it was a bit overwhelming as people were asking how I am doing and giving their condolences. I said to myself, "Kim, What would Helen say to you today?" ...and the answer was that she would tell me to stone up and put my best foot forward...make her proud!! I LOVE HER SO MUCH... _________________ ...keeping the faith in n.c.

Congratulations - so glad you managed to cope well.
It should be easier from now on - the first step is always the most difficult. |

I am very glad you had a good first day back to work. It is hard to start "living" again after such a tragedy... I know. But you are doing the right thing. Each day will become easier for you. You will never forget your mother because she is such a significant part of who you are. Hold on to the good memories. _________________ Jim
