My grandpa just diagnosed with a type of lung cancer known as mesothelioma. I want to know which is the best treatment option for him. Doctors prescribed surgery to him?

Hi Vanessa. I am very sorry about your grandfather's cancer. Although mesothelioma is found in the lungs, we do have a forum specifically for that subject. Unfortunately, because so many ads where being posted to that forum, we had to lock it and all posts to it have to come through me for approval and posting. Replies to your question will also have to come through me. I know this will slow down your efforts to find useful information but it is the best I can do for you.

I can tell you that the best information for you will come from your grandfather's own medical team. They know more about its size, locations and other factors that go into treatment decisions. Keep working with his medical team to find the right combination of treatment for your grandfather.

You and your grandfather are in my thoughts and prayers.

If anyone would like to post a message to vanessa85, please send it to me via email or Private Message and I will post it. Do not post it on the forum until I have approved it.

hello Vanessa,

You should have him see a referral center that deals with this type of cancer. We at the University of Chicago see a lot of these patients. Other centers I could mention are Harvard, Memorial Sloan Kettering.

best

vanessa85,

Sorry to here that your grandpa is having mesothelioma. I'll pray for you and your family.

In the mean time, I just wanted to let you know there is some new test/treatment
in mesothelioma. Most notably MESOMARK blood test.

Early this year, January 2007 to be exact, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the Mesomark assay to help track responses to treatment in epithelial and bi-phasic patients with malignant mesothelioma. This is said to be a very good way to monitor patient's progress.

Because I talked to some mesothelioma patients before and they are not aware of this, so I am posting here in case you need to know. Hopefully this may help in your grandpa's case.

Anyways happy holidays and wish your grandpa is getting better soon.

Laji
