I am a remote practice paramedic with a good deal of experience. However, I have a patient with a lump on his back (4cmx3cm) and freely moving. I mean really moving. It will go from left scapula to right scapula. Not painful, and no other symptom. Originally came to me as a possible boil. It certainly isn't. Any idea as to what this can be? I don't plan to remove it as it isn't causing any pain etc. But I'd love to know what this transversing lump is.
I have to admit, I 'd really like to take this thing apart. Not to worry, it's not going to happen. _________________ First, do no harm. |

I agree with Vee's question... I wonder if it can be something just below his skin level but not so dead that is is in the fatty layers or muscle. But the only way to know for sure is to, as you put it, "take it apart." Does this person have access to a doctor for a more complete examination? _________________ Jim

Hadn't thought of that. But regardless, I felt it near his left scapula and about 5 minutes later it was near his spine. The most odd thing I've ever seen.

It does sound weird. To move so much under the skin too. If a cyst then it would be logged in one spot- unmoveable (from what i know about cyst- through skin courses).
Is it giving him pain? is it looking red, or swallen around the area? Is it the skin moving or IT moving??
I would recommending to get it looked at proffessionaly _________________ Thinking of you Inica

Nope, not a darn thing. just a lump that moves side to side. I saw it go from left scapula to near his spine within about 5 minutes. Actually didn't watch it, 'cause I didn't believe him. But I re-examined and it indeed had moved.
He says it moves left to right sides and I have no reason to dis-believe him. Just the weirdest damned thing I"ve ever seen. Amd yes he has excess to an MD that according to him, says it is most likely cancerous. I had my doubts.
I was a remote medic in Iraq and am now home in GA. I just know a weird thing when I see it. And yes, I still want to see that lump up close. I know I don't have the protocols to do so, but my curiosity is still there. There is just no fascia that would allow that kind of movement. Or is there?

I had a dream last night- if you can call that----After some christams drinks- i'd call it a hulenation...I dreamed that it was lancet and it was a giant cockroach living and moving under the skin.
Needless to say I scratched the hell out of myself in my sleep.
Get it checked out now, don't wait. _________________ Thinking of you Inica

Ok, let me clarify. It isn't exactly moving all by itself. I think it moves with the movement of his muscles. I'm thinking that it is most probably a fat mass just under the skin, not under the fascia.
I'll tell him to go to his MD. He has a fund shortage as his wife ( they are separated) stuck him with a huge jewelry store bill. About 6K worth.
But I sure wish I had him in Iraq. I'd have excised that little sucker and figured it out.
And relax, it's not a roach, you sicko.
I have 9 lives also.
got shot in the face and had a sub-arachnoid hemorrhage. Oh yeah and I drove backward off a bridge once (long story).
If I ever fall on my ass it'll probably kill me. My head seems to be kill-proof. I tell people I'm like superman. I can stop a speeding bullet. Just not very well.
Thanks for all the reply's.
Now if anyone has any theories besides being a roach... _________________ First, do no harm. |

Ok- so that was said with me a little under the weather early this morning- I opologise.... (though a nice theory lol)
Yeah i was thinking the same, some sort of fatty mass. Still worth having it looked at properly. I do alot of nasty lancets with my job. I know of a few in my job that go a little too far- so it's always best to have someone look at it professionaly first. (though i know your itching to get your hands onto it).
(and nothing wrong with a little sickness in your life _________________ Thinking of you Inica
