Bi-lateral, nontender anterior, cervical 1inch diam, discrete, hard, rubbery lymph nodes. I have had them for almost 5 months, no change in size. CT scan of neck done - no tumor shown. No reaction blood tests looks good. No other symptoms. My research says Lymphoma; Am I just scaring myself? Could this be something else? Only definitive way to know is with a biopsy which I am getting a consult next week. Anyone have similar symptoms? Thank you in advance

There are various reasons why lymph nodes can swell and i'm sure your doctor has discussed this with you, for instance there is a thing called Shotty or Shoddy lymph nodes which basically means they never go down in size or texture from a previous infection, There is also possibility of some kind of chronic infection, and many more.... I'm pleased your CT scan was okay, And that your blood tests were negative.

I have had various lymph nodes in my throat swollen for about 5 years also no change in size, And hard and rubbery, Although some more have popped up recentley. Not too sure on the medical term for the particular nodes but the ENT says the main ones are the ones which drain the tonsils.

I am also very concerned about lymphoma. And the ENT has ordered me a CT Scan, and a FNB but he says its to settle my own concerns. In my case i have lost allot of weight and have neurological problems aswel.

If i was in your position i would push for a biopsy, I have heard of a less invasive way of diagnosing lymphoma. And that is by flow cemetry of your blood, I don't know if you can ask your doctor about that, But i am going to mention it to my GP on my next visit.

Best of luck,
Anthony

Thank you for your very good information. It helps to take the edge off my worry. My thought is that since things aren't showing up in my blood work yet etc. that it is a low grade form. As you have probably seen, googling respectable websites puts this type of lymph node swelling in the hot seat. So what else could it be?? I am pretty sure I don't have cat scratch disease and am negetive for mono..I will get some form of a biopsy within the next 2 weeks. I've read that the fnb has an 80% chance of picking up the reed sternberg cells but if its negative I will always worry about that 20% and although I don't want a scar on my neck for "nothing" it may be best for peace of mind. I must say that even the thought that I may have cancer has put a new perspective to my living and has increased my belief in and increased my practice of compassion - the one bright light. God Bless all of you.

After seeing a general practitioner who confirmed what I believed to be chronic, bilateral swellings of the anterior cervical lymph nodes and sent me for over $3000. of tests and my ct scans were also described by the radiologist as swollen lymph nodes I was referred to a surgeon for a biopsy. The instant I showed him the swellings he said that they were my submandibular salivary glands and that no way he was about to remove those. I am headed to an ent - but relieved I don't have symptoms indicative of a lymphoma. Anyway - It is food for thought for someone who may find themselves in a similar situation with these swellings.

Dear Phoenix2,

It sounds like this turned out well. One thing to always keep in mind is if "nodes" change - especially if they get larger. Enlarging "nodes" are something you should consider seeing your doctor for. Infections can do this (usually you are aware of a bad cold or other infection) and after the infection they get smaller although some stay mildly enlarged. If it is not an infection - especially if the "nodes" continue to grow - then you should consider talking with your doctor about a biopsy.

i have a 2.7 cm lump on my neck under my chin which is just bigger than one inch. the dr said that he wouldn't be worried if it was just 1-1.5 but it is bigger so he is worried, i was ordered to have ultrasound, got that done, they couldn't tell much, so then i had to have a CT scan, and they didn't know much about that either he stuck a needle in it last week to see if he could get cells from it, i might possibly have to have a biopsy and it removed, i dont know what it is, ive had it for about two years and it doesn't bother me or anything. the dr said it could be cat scratch fever, lymphoma or a sist. i'm not that worried about it.. should i be? plz help me if anyone has information or a similar issue.

thanks,
caitlin
