I just had a plum size tumor taken out of my right frontal lobe and am currently on chemo temodor. This started 10 years ago when I had a seizure and went to a neurologist and he said one seizure is no big deal. Lets see what happens. Me being stupid said O.K. One year later another seizure. Tests were ran eeg mri catscan. I was told all these were negative for anything. Stupid again. I was finally put on a seizure medicine and was seizure free for several years. Last fall I had another seizure and 2 more in the next 4 months. I had another mri done. A plum size tumor was found. Well guess what when they ordered the original mri films from 10 years earlier the tumor was there only marble sized. They said we had to get it out and that having it that long and still being alive there was no reason to worry for cancer. Stupid again. After my first visit back to the doctor after surgery they said grade 3 oligodendroglioma and chemo was needed. I almost hit the floor. Anyway I will have my first mri after the one the day after surgery in about 3 weeks. I am really anxious to find out the results. I have complete confidence in these doctors and am reserching this alot.(trying not to be stupid again). I am currently still working and trying to maintain my job. I have 2 kids a senior and freshman in high school. I am so worried about insurance and keeping this job. My wife has ms and she is attending nursing school. She will finish this semester and can be a cna. Once she gets a job and can carry the insurance that will be a load off of our minds. Anyway ask questions. Write them down when you think of them because you will forget when it is time to ask. Good luck to all going through this it is not easy. Smile every chance you get. Trust god to take care of you and your family. Keep asking questions and take care of yourselves. SMILE

Terry, I am just floored by your story! Are you in a small city going to a medium sized hospital? It is amazing to me that they missed it 10 years ago!!

The good news is that even a grade III oligodendroglioma is slow growing and does not metastasize. If it was a lung cancer or skin cancer or any of the dozens of other cancers that do metastasize, you would not be with us today.

I too have a grade III oligodendroglioma. Mine was surgically removed in 2005 followed by 3 months of radiation therapy. I still have some problems speaking and right hand and arm weakness... and I am not too stable on my feet... balance issues. But, I am still here. They have told me that it will probably recur some time within the next 5 years. Hang around with me and let's find out if they are right this time Wink. I am betting on the long shot Very Happy.

You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Hey thanks for the reply. Yeah I am in Athens a small town in North Alabama and just recently started going to the university of alabama birmingham. I think they are doing a great job. I think I have been lucky not to have to have the radiation but came through the surgery well with no ill side effects. I have all my movement and speech. Good luck to you it will come back in time. We had a girl at my daughters high school who had a resection and she could not walk well for a while but is doing well now. I wish you well and hope things continue to go well. I have had 2 seizures since the surgery and they have added another anti seizure drug. Maybe this will go well. I have talked to a couple of lawyers about them missing the first tumor and they said to make sure and follow this up but none of them wanted to do it. Still searching though. Anyway good luck to you and hope things work better soon.

For me, things are great! Not really much to "write home about." Yes, I know where Athens is. I live in Columbia, TN just south of Nashville... not too far from the Alabama boarder. UAB has an excellent hospital. Good luck to you too.
