I am so glad you all are there. I am day 3 into CAF and am really nauseated even with the nausea pill. Is there anyone out there that found something that worked to reduce the nausea? I have to work (real estate) and am finding it difficult. Any help is appreciated. 11 more days to go and I get the 14 day break! Yea!
Walking in faith believing for a miracle.
Blessings,

Hi Betty, sorry the nausea is bothering you. Do let your doctor know as there are other drugs that can be used. Others I have heard talk about nausea say it is important to keep something in the stomach all the time -- bland things like applesauce and soda crackers, maybe a handful of dry crereal like Cheerios or Oatmeal Squares. I am sure you will hear from those with first-hand knowledge. Hugs, Lauri
P.S. I assumed with a board name of British that you were in Great Britian. Silly me. _________________ Diagnosed 4/11/1996

Call your doctor. I suffered for 2 days not even being able to hold down a sip of water. They changed my meds and the new meds worked. They told me that different things worked for different people. Lauri is also right about eating frequently and small amounts....keep something in your stomach. Bland foods are better. Jello worked well for me. Also, smells would make me feel nauseated. Good luck with it!! _________________ Shelly

Hi,
You've gotten good advice. There are more nausea meds now then even when I went through it 3 years ago. Also, I found if I ate something like baked chicken, it stopped the nausea. The last thing I thought about was eating, thinking it would make me feel worse, but it made me feel so much better.
I know work is important, but chemo is going to keep you fatigued. Don't overdue it. Listen to your body and when it says rest, you need to. You'll have good days that you'll be able to work and feel like it more then likely, just don't push yourself. Yoúr body is going through alot.
I had the same chemo you did except mine was FEC.... I had the epirubensin where you're having the Adriamycin (sp). It's in the same family. I got mine every 3 weeks and it seemed to have been worse for me the 2nd day and depending on which # treatment I was on, the days would change, but I always had some good days.
Definately call the onco.
Take care and before you know it, you'll be writing saying that you're done with chemo

Hi Betty,
I feel for you! So sorry you are struggling with the nausea.
I had LOTS of nausea on A/C. I was on Kytril and Compazine and they never worked that well for me.
Many ladies have posted that Emend and Aloxi (sp?) are excellent drugs. Have you tried those? I agree you have to speak with your doctor about this.
Nancy's right about the chicken. LOL I went on a rotisserie chicken binge for most of chemo. Didn't want to cook the darn thing myself. LOL Eat what appeals to you and stick with that.
Good luck and hugs. The light at the end of that tunnel will soon be seen.

I am so glad that you are giving great recommendation to British. That is right, there are many types of medications for nausea and vomiting. Usually physicians start with the "cheap" ones like Reglan and move on to Zofran or Kytril (a lot more expensive). My experience has been that the expensive ones do provide better results. The mechanisms are different of course. The other point to make is that Kytril can be taken once a day, so more convenient for people who have a busy schedule.

Check with your onco about samples. I tried Compazine (sp) and it didn't help, but the others that Dr. Lu mentioned did. They were about $40 a pill BUT I got samples all through chemo, I never had to pay for a RX. Most people I've talked to also were given samples from their onco if they didn't have an insurance card that only required you to pay like a $15.00 co pay. _________________ Nancy

Hi Betty:
I agree with everyone. I was on 4 treatments of A/C and took Zofran religiously, even setting the alarm in the middle of the night to make sure I took it as directed. I only needed to take it the day after treatment and had very little nausea. Everyone is different but I would talk to your onc. There are too many good nausea drugs out there to suffer needlessly. Also, as everyone else has said, make sure you eat several small meals/snacks to keep food in your stomach. You may not feel like eating but I found that if I started to feel nausious, and it wasn't time to take another pill, if I ate jello, crackers, toast, or something simple it alleviated the nausea and I felt much better. Our thoughts are with you.

I am so sorry that you are going through this, I know only to well how bad this can be once it starts really hard to stop. I had to try to numerous meds.. finally settled with kytril and ativan, during the infusion and on a steady schedule after that. However that kytril was only used for four days and then took torrecan and ativan for a few days more. I had really bad nausea. Some of the info that I can give you is this. Make sure that you take the meds even if you do not think that you will need them. Marion is right, you need to stay on top of the nausea before it starts it is so much easier to control if you can avoid it in the first place. I also drank lots and lots of water, hydration helps with it too. As far as food goes.. I ate alot of "comfort foods", lived on grilled cheese and mac. and cheese..I also found that If I sucked on hard candy, especially life savers tropical fruit flavored it helped to keep the yuckies away, as well as chewing bazooka bubblegum, what can I say a kid at heart other then that advice the only other thing that I can say is hang in there... my prayers and thoughts are with you!
HUGS!

| I believe there is a "orally disentigrating" Zofran ODT, I imagine it is quite expensive, but if your nauseated... |

I took Emend and Kytril during AC, and they worked like a charm. Not a moment of nausea, I ate whatever I wanted, no problem. Expensive, but worth it. _________________ Rachel

I took Decadron and Kytril and it kept the nausea away. The only problem was the decadron kept me awake at night. Oh well, I'd rather stay awake than deal with nausea... _________________ Shelly
