Confused Hi there. My name is Mary Anne, and I was recently diagnosed with Breast Cancer. I found my lump myself back in either late July or early August. I had just been to the women's center on May 11th this year and they saw some calcifications on my left breast but compared them to previous films and so no change so they did not pursue it any further. What I found in late July early August was on my right breast. I was just taking a nice hot bath because I have scoliosis really bad (curvature of the spine) and a nice hot bath makes my hip and back feel better. It hurts me all the time and has for about 5 years now. Anyway, I was getting ready to shave under my arm and when I was soaping up under my arm I passed over my right breast and there was an apparent lump there right there on top kinda to the right. I was alarmed of course. I called and made an appointment to go back to the Dr. and went about 2 weeks later. That was in September. When I went back to the Center for another exam the Doctor examined me and said agreed with me that the lump did not show up on the mammogram back in May. Then I was scheduled to go back to the women's center for another mammogram. On October 13th I went and had more mammograms, a sonogram and some high resolution scans. Then the lady that reads them came in and told me she was going to have my Doctor schedule me an appointment with a breast specialist for a biopsy. They did two biopsy's. One core sample, and a needle aspiration of the lymph gland was done on the 18th of October. On the 23rd on October they called me with the results. I have at least stage 2 breast cancer with lymph node involvement. It started in the milk duct if that makes any sense. This is all new to me so I will learn as I go. I now have an appointment with an Oncologist on November 5th. My breast surgeon wants to do chemo first and then surgery to remove the lump with the hope that the chemo will shrink it and remove at least 5 to 6 nodes. After that I will probably have radiation too. This is like a piano fell from the sky and hit me in the head. I am still out of it.
When I go on November 5th and it won't be for chemo treatments but for other tests, An MRI, A PET SCAN, A CT SCAN, BLOOD WORK, A CHEST XRAY. Heavens knows what else. This sounds so scary to me. I do not care if they take off both breasts and I NEVER HAVE THEM AGAIN. I just hope I do not have it anywhere else in my body because the lymph node fluid they took was positive also. I am just kinda overwhelmed about all this. Pray for me. I will do the same for you.
We have to overcome this and be positive I know. I am gonna try hard.
Talk soon, MARY ANNE
Ps..I hope you will all share with me what you have gone through with this disease and how you are doing with treatments and such. Thank you so much for listening.

Hi Mary Anne, I am so sorry about your breast cancer. Since I have never faced what you are facing, I cannot answer any of your questions. But as a long term brain cancer survivor, I can identify with the feeling that a piano dropped on my head. It is not the easiest news to hear of accept. If you want, you can read my full story by clicking on the link in my signature block. I am using the forum as my personal blog Wink

I am thinking about and praying for you. I hope your appointment today went well. Let us know how you are doing.

Hon, so sorry you have to go through this and I will pray for you. I found my tumor while in the shower as well. I had a really bad pathology and triple negative to boot...that was going on 5.5 years ago. All of the tests are a normal part of procedure to see if the cancer has spread anywhere else. I had extesive angiolymphatic invasion (cancer cells in the lymph chanels and in the blood vessels) and I was very fortunate that it had not spread to any other parts of my body. My lymphnodes were also positive and I had multifocal spread. I have been very blessed. I hope the same for you.
