I went in for an Xray of my spine and came away wondering if I might have cancer!

They found out that I have a 6-7 mm pulmonary nodule( their wording) inside my left lung. ( A CT scan is in the works once my insurence gives me a referral ok).

I'm shocked, as I just had a breast biopsy 2 weeks ago and they never even picked it up on their Xrays, mammograms and unltrasounds that day( and they did at least two sets of each to place the wires for the breast biopsies).

A little history about me, I started smoking in 1980, when I was 10 yrs old and I quit in 1999. I have asthma, chronic bronchitis, and acute empyshema(sp?). REcent tests found that I also had a very high sed rate meaning a high rate of imflammation in the blood. I also found out that my platelet count is low.

I was getting bronchitis at least once a year but in the last few years not as often though I had both that and phneumonia last winter.

The other thing is that for months now I have been very short of breath and I do mean VERY, just walking up stairs or biking. I never went to the Dr. as I thought it might be my MS or Fibromyalgia.

Could this all be connected? Are these bad signs?

moonchild, I am very sorry about all of your health concerns. I do not know how they could have missed it just two week ago unless that x-ray was done a an angle that did not cover the lungs with x-rays. You need to continue to work with your medical team to diagnose this nodule. Right now, it is relatively small... about 1/4 of an inch. That might have also contributed to them missing it.

Your symptoms could all be related or they could have several causes. But only further test can tell for sure. It is worrisome that you platelets are low. Do you remember what the test results where?

Keep us informed as you have more news or if you just want someone to talk with. I will be thinking about and praying for you.

Moonchild,

I'm sorry to hear about your health scare and worry.

Like Brainman has said it is only small and things like these a grow and change really quick in size, etc.
Plus if they are not looking at anything but the main concern, things tend to get missed, In other areas.

Good luck and fingers cross. Try to relax and stay positive till you get resluts. (i know..) Confused

Still awaiting the CT to be set up. But have been experiencing chest pain and the shortness of breath is getting more severe. Also been having stabbing pains in chest in front and back. I'm getting nervous.

The shortness of breath etc. could very well be anxiety from worrying and waiting for the CT. Anxiety can cause chest pains and SO many other symptoms and it would be only natural for you to be having a lot of anxiety right now. I'd call your doc and tell him and he can give you something to help you to relax some. I had to take xanax for anxiety as it got so bad.

Praying for good test results. Please keep us posted.

many people have terrible anxiety and go for months without medication or counseling for it. talk to your doctor and find out what he/she can do..i went for yrs without treatment and support. at least you're catching the symptoms pretty early in the game. i'm always here and you're in my prayers, Kat

going to the hospital during an anxiety attack can sometimes be a good thing, when i had my worst attack i went to the hospital and they put a glycerine pill under my tounge or something like that. i can't remember if that's what it was called or not but it was something like that. i was pregnant with my son and i felt like i was having a heart attack , my left arm hurt really bad, my chest hurt i thought my heart was going to come out of my chest literally and i couldn't breathe. the doc took my blood pressure and my bp was 190/100. the doc couldn't believe it was so high. so when you're feeling it coming on, it might not be such a bad idea to get yourself checked out immediately. you're in my prayers hun, Kat

Thanks but it isn't like an anxiety attack. I used to have those, but they put me on citalopram for that, as well as the fibromyalgia, depression and chronic pain.

With this pain, I just couldn't get comfortable. It was getting very bad. And I was short of breath especially lying on left side.

But I finally gave in and took a darvocet left over from my hysterectomy and breast biopsy surgeries that I had one and two mos ago.

I also used my inhaler again twice and that helped me too.

Maybe thats a good idea though- next attack or pain, go into hospital. They will have to do scan then, incase of chances it's a heart attack.

Embarassed Bad I know- but sometimes neccessary- especailly if that bad.

I've recently had some rather bad news myself. I'm not ready to talk about it yet, but here's some things I've learned recently that has helped with my anxiety levels waiting to find out my test results and such. The most important thing to remember is that worrying will only make things seem worse. I try to concentrate on how i'm feeling each day. The good thing I've learned is that no matter how scary the diagnosis, it dosen't mean you're going to die. I speak rather morbidly most of the time, and try to control my verbal harshness on this forum, so i hope that what I just said didn't offend you. I'm just trying to offer what little I've been able to learn already being recently diagnosed myself. My doctor recently put me on xanax for my nerves and that helps alot too. I hope for good news for you, but even if the diagnosis sounds scary, just remember, people live through really bad things alot in this day and age. Medicine has come a long way in the last 20 years. Try to hang in there. Smile
