| After the Pediatric B.M.T. w/ stem cell rescue in 5/05, I was on Acyclovir med for 2 yrs. My Dr. at UCSF (where I had the treatment) decided then to let me off the pill. Usually people who take the med will stay on it for a year or 2 and stop, but bad news for me. Just a week ago I noticed a rash on my stomach which over the past few days had unfortunately evolved and spread into what is known as adult chicken pox, or shingles. Currently it’s on a small area of my abdomen but a lot around my lower back. It's not so much itchy, but very irritating and somewhat painful. I feel like popping the bubbles on my lower back but was advised not to. My Oncologist Doctor is currently on vacation but I was able to see an Urgent Care Doctor today. The Doctor saw my body and determined that yes I do have shingles and that I take the Acyclovir 800mg pills ASAP in order to help treat my problem. It doesn't make much sense to me why it's happening but I just know my life is nothing but hell, so what else is new? I'm sure you all know the feeling, not fun at all! =( |

I am so sorry you developed shingles, SFGiants. Man, as they say, if it weren't for bad luck....  My father got shingles during his chemotherapy and it was mostly painful for him as well. You are in my thoughts and prayers, friend.

Hi Brainman,
I appreciate your kind words and thank you. At first it didn't hurt at all until it spreaded and currently it's really painful, like a 3-4 on the pain scale, which means it's not very tolerable at all especially at night when I'm asleep. I hope your father is doing well because the pain is constant and will not go away without the right med like Acyclovir for example. It'll take 7 days so I hope it'll get rid of the shingles for good! If I were to explain how it feels, like warm burning sharp/poking sensation. I can actually feel the heat when I put my hand close to my abdomen. All I can say that it's very sary and dsgusting mess. |
