| How can you tell if a loved one has given up? I watch my wife with no motivation, just want to sleep, take pain drugs and not try and fight her cancer, friends and family have tried to help motivate her and still no results any suggestions? Thanks |

Hi Stephen,
It can be very hard to tell if someone has given up and just wants to die (passive suicide) or is just reacting normally to the medication. I would ask her oncologist or medical team to help assess her needs at this point in her treatment. You can also get her to see a trained therapist who also can assess her. It is just too hard to tell what she is thinking and feeling over the internet.
Having said that, it is not uncommon for people with cancer to have times when they do just feel like giving up. Your unconditional love (even acceptance of her desire to just die) will go a long way in helping fill the loneliness she is feeling at this point.
I will keep you and your wife in my thoughts and prayers. _________________ Jim

I hope things have improved for your wife. Any changes? |

when I was 21, a very close aunt of mine went through a similar stage. My advice - Love her unconditionally and try to make her smile at least once a day. Encourage others to do the same. It's amazing what a smile can do! _________________ 7 YEARS AND STILL TICKING! |

Hi, I have been following your story and replys. I'm sorry for your Wife's deterating Health. It is hard to know- If they are giving up, or just depressed. Like Brainman says it could be because of meds etc.
Anyway- I've noticed it's been a while since you posted.
How are things? Please up-dated us on things.
