New and nervous colon cancer and now spots on my liver

I had lots of blood in the toilet in May, 9 polyps found in June, 1 was malignant, surgery scheduled for Aug 14. While I was waiting they set me up for a CT scan, a spot on my liver was found. I was concerned but told it was very unlikely it could have spread to my liver. Sent for an MRI, found at least 4 lesions, radiologist said he was very concerned about "METS"?, I have PET scan scheduled for today. Things have been moving too slow for my comfort. I have scheduled myself an appointment to see an oncologist at Duke University Cancer Center. I am 41, does anyone know what I should expect. What should be happening in the short term, and what are my long term expectations?

1st, go to a major cancer hospital. You can find them here.

Duke is on the top of the list. If they need to redo tests there, let them do so. Some people think it's a scam for them to take more money.

Here is my story. I was diagnosed with Stage IV (not that it means that is what you have) by the great hospitals here. They gave me 18 months to live tops, but said I could die at any minute. I went to a top hospital 8 hours away. They redid the tests. I looked at everyone. You could see that the top hospital's test were clearer and more advanced than what I had in my state.

So, clearer picture, better doctors, I was diagnosed in July of 2004. I have had no evidence of disease since October of 2004.

Finished the PET scan today, Stage IV, four spots on or in the liver. I go to Duke on Monday, looking forward to seeing someone I have confidence in. I just want to start something, this sitting around is driving me crazy. Thanks for the info.
