Hello all: I haven't written in awhile as I was writing under newly diagnosed and feel like I am oldly diagnosed now. I have completed the four cycles of AC and have had my first dose of Taxol. They gave me 50 mg of Benadryl, Kytril, and 20 Mg of Decadron prior to the Taxol. I also took 1mg of Ativan orally. All was fine until day four when I broke out in hives on my abdomen which turned into welts. Has anyone had this excperience? The doctor ordered Methylprednisolone in decreasing dosage for 5 days. He said it was a reaction to the Taxol and would take four to five days to resolve./ I am worried about the next dose and if I am going to have more of a reaction. I felt pretty crummy yesterday with nausea and had to take Ativan and Compazine. I thought my stomach problems were going to be over with the Taxol. I am taking Acidex now for the GI problems. Does anyone have any advice or suggestions? I will be soooooo glad when this is over. Sharon

Hi Sharon,
I can't be of any help to you since I had FEC and all I know about Taxol is what others have told me. I just wanted to tell you I was thinking of you and pray that the next round goes smoother for you. You're almost done girl and I know you're ready.
Hang in there!!!!!!!
I know someone else will have some answers for you.
Nancy

I can't be of much help either since I did not have chemo. But, this certainly sounds like an alergic reaction to me. I wonder if it could be to one of the anti-naseau meds. Sorry you had the adverse reaction. I hope the next treatment goes better. Hugs, Lauri

Sharon ~ You're more than half done! It will soon be over. You might want to go to www.breastcancer.org and post under the "Treatments" thread. It gets a lot of traffic and some who have done Taxol may be able to give you some tips.

PM me anytime you just want to talk.

Hugs,

Margie

Sharon,
I'm going to e-mail a couple of ladies that I know real well who took Taxol. I feel certain they will come over and post and hopefully can help you and give you some info on Taxol, or at least their experiences.
One's name is Trish and one is Georgia. Not sure if they will use their regular screen names or what, so that's why I'm telling you their real names.
Hope they can help.
Nancy

Hello Sharon: My name is Georgia and Nancy tells me that you are having problems with your Taxol. I took Taxol in 2000, and at that time I was given 12 weeks worth of it. Once every Friday I went for my treatment. I never got sick to my stomach, just very tired. I did however, have rashes that occured on my arms and legs. Not as bad as hives, but it still itched. I used some tree tea cream on the rash, smells awful but it seemed to calm the itch. Taxol also made me lose my hair a second time. It had started to grow back during my rads and keep growing through out my Taxol Treatment until the very last dose. My Doctor gave me a double dose and the next day the hair started to come out. Taxol, for me was easier than my A/C. If you would like to email anytime that would be Ok. (((HUGS))) Georgia

Hi Georgia: thanks for your reply. I had my second dose of Taxol on Thursday without any problem. The oncologist did put me on decadron 8mg per day x 5 days for the joint and muscle pain which should take care of any hives as well I think. I notice that my cuticles are peeling and will try to keep them lubricated and will use tea tree oil to prevent an infection. Only two more treatments to go. I think my energy is alittle better than when on AC. This is such a ride, I never know what to expect from one day to the next. Sharon
