Ok just need a bit of advice please Smile I am only 17.

Ok so it started last year...I think I caught a virus, had a really sore throat and swollen lymph nodes.I noticed this last july and saw a doctor last october, was told it was a virus.Since then I have seen 4 doctors as 2 lymph nodes are larger than usual, one is going down so not too worried I think it will remain swollen as I touch it all the time, but the other is under my jaw and dont really touch it.

I always have a sore throat, slime in back of throat, runny nose.Been tested for everything and nothing has shown up.I am always tired, had constipation other day(not sure if thats relevant) and recently been getting very itchy skin all over! I also have chills just now feeling warm then getting chilly.

I was extremely worried I had lymph node cancer, had blood tests done about 5 times andseen 4 different doctors as I previously said.Today the doctor I saw said nothing can be done and I sound like I have post viral syndrome. He didnt ask any question at all.But all 4 have told me I had a virus so should I accept this?

Really worried its cancer but surely after a year they would pick it up or Id be really ill?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Mel, did the doctors do any test or just felt the nodes? I would assume that if four doctors are in agreement that they probably are right. You might have some kind of chronic problem but not cancer. Viral infections are extremely difficult to treat.

Having said that, you need to continue to ask your doctors all the questions you have.

Good luck and best wishes.

Yes they all felt them.Last december the doctor said he was not concerned it was cancerous because it was behind the muscle or something Confused hes a very good doctor though.

They did blood tests for everything apparently and they have repeated them loads since last year.In november i had blood tests and when I called up I was told I had to have them repeated next month because they were low (could be high cant remember) but when I had them redone the following month doctor said they were back to normal so it was obvious I had a virus.

But I really didnt think a virus could last this long,I woke up thios morning with a horrible sore throat.

I fainted on friday and was taken to hospital as I was in sainsburys...they tested my heart and everything was fine.I told her about my lymph nodes and she felt them, and was not concerned she just said they seem like shotty lymph nodes.

I was fine with his diagnosis of post viral syndrome yesterday and he gave me cream for the itch and told me to take allergy tablets incase its that. But because I had chills last night I panicked and was up all night crying worrying it is cancer.

Thank you very much for your reply Smile

Mel, there is such a thing as chronic viral infections... for example, I have chronic viral infection for my sinuses... not allergies, infection. Like allergies, it comes and goes. It sounds like that might be the case with you, although you do not know where the infection is. Best wishes.

You see if it was cancer would the tiredness be every single day and the itching every single day?

Some days I feel great but the rest of the time I dont.

Im not sure if its lymphoma,as people are saying with lymphoma you dont have a sore throat all the time.

Mel, I do not know much about lymphomas. In general, cancers can cause one to feel tired. However, a lot of other things can do that too... thyroid problems, depression, or infections for example.

A throat infection could cause nodes to be enlarged. If it is viral, then it might be very hard to cure.

No its not scared me Smile

The problem with my nodes is they got swollen after I got a really bad throat infection on holiday.Since then some have gone down but 3 have remained swollen.2 are very small and im not worried about them at all.The one under my jaw is about the size of a grape and very moveable, not as rubbery as the others.

Mine havent gone and come back or anything and I do know I touch 2 of them all the time.Im trying to see if I can get rid of my throat problem and see if they go down,or at least the one under my jaw.

How big was yours?

Did blood tests not show up anything abnormal for you?

hey mel
i went for soooooo many blood tests and everything came up clean from HIV to glandular fever the doctors didnt know wat it was till i had the biopsy. mine went away and came back but i got sick and after that one of them stayed behind and didnt go away till after my first chemo treatment.....mine where also movable thats why the doctors where so puzzled. wait for your throat infection to go away and if they still there have it checked out even if u go for a CT scan jus to check.

after a while i started getting night sweats but befor that i jus felt like i was constantly dragging extra wieght around.....prob its nothing but rather safe than sorry!!!!! keep smiling

Well when I had a sore throat(prob infection) last year they never went away.

My mum wont take me back to drs as I have seen 4 different ones and told a hospital doctor and none are concerned. But I know deep down I have got it.

Have you finished your treatment?

i have only had one treatment so far thats why i know wat you're going through mine started exactly the same...
the CT scan will show up the extent of the glands how many you have and where not always the diseased ones...the only way is for the doctor to cut a piece out of one that is still there (mine was on my neck) and they do a whole lot of tests on it to determine whether its cancer or not...when i found out i had already had it for two years but only became aggresive now. so u might never flare up or it might have already if you get tired often night sweats any other symptoms tell your doc.
Very Happy

mel dont worry yet first go see your doctor and find out it might be nothing...
you can have non-hodgkins lymphoma but in a wait and watch period which means you have it but you dont need treatment (stage 1) if more of the nodes become diseased (stage 2 or 3) then your oncologist will work out a treatment regime for u. so just have it checked out... im here for u if u need anything

keep smiling
god bless
