Hi
I'm searching for information on behalf of my sister in law. She was diagnosed with uterine cancer ( Papillary cerous carcenoma - Stage 1c) late last year. She had her surgery in December which indicated that all the margins were clear, including lymph nodes. However, her tumour had an agressive cancer cell (the doctor called it "clear cell"). She has had 6 rounds of chemotherapy. Now the doctors want her to have radiation therapy - five weeks, five days a week. She has decided not to have this radiation because of all the severe side effects that are mentioned in the literature. Her doctors have become insistent that she has this rediation therapy.
If she continues to choose not to take radiation, what are her chances of re-occurence? If the cancer does re-appear, what choices does she have to fight this new cancer?
Thanks for your help.

The truthful answer to your questions is: I don't really know and I don't think anyone else does either.
Her cancer is a relatively low grade cancer. However, with the aggressive cells present, aggressive treatment is understandable. Of course, any treatment is ultimately your sister-in-law's choice. I assume that they plan to irradiate the surgery area... lower abdomen? I am not sure what all the risks are in that. Certainly, her intestines and to some degree kidneys and liver will receive radiation. However, radiologist's are very good in minimizing this collateral radiation damage. Another course of action is for your sister-in-law to get a second opinion.
The danger is that if she does have a recurrence, it can metastasize to any number of other organs making it much more difficult to treat... not impossible, just more difficult.
I know this must be a difficult decision and hopefully others with more experience with uterine cancer will reply. I will keep you and your sister-in-law in me thoughts and prayers. Keep us informed. _________________ Jim

Hello
My sister-in-law and I went to see her radiologist yesterday to go over some questions we had about radiation. She is still determined not to have radiation even though the radialogist told her that if the cancer returns, there is not much that can be done to fight the re-occurence.
I would like to hear from other women who have had radiation therapy for their uterine cancer. According to the radialogist, severe side effects from radiation therapy are uncommon.
Thanks for your help.
