I'm hoping someone may be able to help me, I'll try to keep it as short as I can, I have been in hospital twice over the past 5 weeks with gallstone pancretitis and then mild acute pancretitis. They are planning to remove the gallbladder once the pancretits has settled enough, also both times I have had a ultra sound done the last time they did spend a lot more time doing this which at the time I thought nothing of. However on my discharge letter I note as well as the above they have also noted fatty liver, but what worried me was focal lesion in liver then (prob hepatoma) Having lost my Dad a short time ago to kidney cancer and doing a lot of reading online I understand hepatoma to be liver cancer, if anyone can shed any light on this I'd be grateful as my appointment to see my DR is not till the 25th, I'm thinking of trying to see my GP sooner to see if she can tell me anything.
Any advice would be great Thanks Jo.

Jo, it does sound like you are going through a very difficult and troubling time in your live. I do not know much about hepatomas. I do not even know if there is a benign form and a malignant form. I do know that the use of ultasounds to follow the effectiveness of treatment is common. However, for diagnosis purposes, it is not the best tool. An MRI will give your medical team more information about exact location, size, vascularity (blood supply and artery/vein involvement), etceteras about these lesions. At this point, hang on the the "probably" word of the radiologist. Nothing has been confirmed. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Keep us informed.

Jo,
A hepatoma is a benign type of liver lesion that requires no treatment. Radiologists can tell if its a hepatoma by the way it looks on the CT. It is often followed if needed at all. Other imaging such as MRI or U/S may or may not be needed. Just followup with your GP. Good luck.
