| Hi, is it possible to detect cancer in the small intestines when doing a routine abdominal ultrasound? And if yes then approximately how much is the accuracy percentage? |

Hi ekim3,
I can only tell you what I can assume to be true since I do not have any personal experience with small intestinal cancers. My hunch is that if the cancer is large enough, yes, an ultrasound will reveal its presence. Don't ask me to define what "large enough" is. I am sure there are better was to detect cancers in the small intestines.
May I ask you why the question? Did you have something show up on an ultrasound? Hope to hear back from you soon. _________________ Jim

| I'm just concerned because i dunno what's going on yet... I'm having upper back pressures, some abdominal pain/discomfort, digestion not too well. I also sometimes have a very low fever of 37.2 or 37.3 degrees celsius. 2 months ago had a chest x-ray and abdominal ultrasound but nothing turned up. Blood tests during then were all good. Just had a CT scan and waiting for results and will be getting a COLONOSCOPY and GASTROSCOPY tomorrow. Maybe its my pancreas but dunno yet. Quite stressed over these symptoms which have been bothering me for over a few months. |

ekim3, I can understand your stress! You are living with a lot of questions that, hopefully, your medical team will soon be able to answer. If you have had a CT scan, that should reveal the presence of a cancer. Keep us informed.
I will have you in my thoughts and prayers. _________________ Jim

ekim3,
Ultrasound is not traditionally used to find small bowel cancer. These can be hard to detect even by CT or by endoscopy. _________________ RLee, MD
