Zephydel,
If you look online, you'll find plenty of alternatives. Of course, the real question is an alternative that works better, has less side effects, and is cheaper. Without further details about your friends case, it's hard to suggest anything. Although, even with further information, the health care costs will be high. Please be careful when looking at other "alternatives" as many alternative therapies report great results with little credible research. I hope that a public medical center exists nearby where you can receive basic care. Best wishes,

That worries me the most. I see entire families get driven into heavy debt or even poverty by just maintaining relatives who have or died of cancer.

Its true that there many alternatives out there. One of the most prominent I have been hearing about is the effects of Green Tea and Reishi Mushroom on advanced stage cancer patients.

Hearing about it from my Chinese friends (They are crazy about the stuff), I am considering suggesting such to my friend whose father is struggling with cancer.

Of course, I would soud desperate if I did that.

What should I look for when considering alternatives?

Chemotherapies vary enormously in cost. Depends very much on what the chemotherapy is being used to do.

You don't say where you live, and why should you be helping your friends. Isn't this a matter for their doctors? Or are you in fact really interested in alternative therapies? Chinese doctors are using both traditional drugs and Western drugs, but the evidence for the effectiveness of traditional drugs is difficult to assess and very variable. There has been a lot of reporting on Green Tea and various mushrooms - neither can cure cancer. There is some evidence that they can be protective against developing cancer.

Maybe what you should consider is lobbying your government for better financial support of people with chronic diseases.

If you're interested in alternative solutions, the company called Mannatech produce wellness products which go right down to the very basic level of your body and address issues with poor nutrition due to over farming, pesticides etc. Their main product, Ambrotose, contains 8 sugars which are used in cell-to-cell communication. Imagine trying to have a conversation, let alone organise your body to fight cancer, without a couple letters of the alphabet. Their products do not cure or treat cancer, or any other illness, they give your body the building blocks it needs to fight cancer itself.

This is an alternative: is the most powerful antioxidant to be used against a degernation of cells but is not only a way to cure a cancer is also a method to be used as prevention. It is very unexpensive and is being used also in USA now. This Foundation is located in Italy. I tell you since my father as healed from a cancer with this method, using also the RIBOSIUM. Both Potassium Ascorbate and Ribosium are used by the Pantellini Foundation I am talking about www.pantellini.org, you'll find a text in english at the bottom or go straight to: http://www.pantellini.org/faq_asco_eng.asp

They say: "We can effectively defeat and prevent degenerative diseases.
A wholly natural remedy against degenerative diseases which works on your immune system: we make degenerative diseses die of hunger."

It is a fully natural method and has to be continued all life so that it keeps low the degernation of cells. Every day.
