Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice please?
About 6 months ago I noticed some blood actually on my stool when I went to the toilet. It wasn't every time I went but I found it happened mostly when I drank alcohol I would pass the blood the next morning. I also found my anus bleeding when I had sex with my husband. He didn't have to penitrate me with his penis but just sometimes disturb my anal area. The blood on the stool went away but came back about 6 weeks ago. I went to the doctor last week and he sent me for a blood test and I needed to do a sample test 3 samples. While at the doctors he asked for my syptoms and asked if I had any abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation. I said no because at the time I didn't have any but as soon as I left the doctors I started getting cramps in both my sides, like stitch. I'm due to go back to the doctors this week to get the results of my blood and sample tests and I'm at my wits end. I know I will need to go and have a colonscopy to make sure its nothing to serious. My husband says it can be a number of things but I keep coming back to cancer.
I am 25 and have no family history of colon cancer. Could this be cancer?
I have also been reading different causing of bleeding and came across Crohn's Disease and ulcerative colitis. Is this possible if I don't have any family members with these diseases?
Any help greatly appreciated.

It could be anything, and it might not be anything, but yes, it could be cancer.
I was diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer on a fluke. I went in to a walk in doctor to refill my allergy medication. I'm allergic to certain foods. I have no family history of colon cancer and I was 43.
He told me I should get a colonoscopy, because it could be Chron's or IBS, but the only way to make sure it wasn't more than food allergies was to get a colonoscopy. But not to worry, it wasn't cancer. Mainly because I have good blood. A lot of times people are anemic and that makes doctors think it might be cancer.
So when I went to get my colonoscopy, that doctor tried to talk me out of it, since my insurance wouldn't pay, I was too young, and the allergy medication took care of my symptoms. I chose to pay and have it done anyway. Generally, of all the people who get a colonoscopy, only about 10% have cancer.
Well, this doctor totally changed his opinion after the colonoscopy.
So, the moral of the story is, you could have no symptoms and have Stage IV colon cancer, or you could have symptoms, and you might just have hemorroids or something else. The only way to put your mind at ease is to get a colonoscopy. Even if you have to pay for it.
Because I did have cancer, the insurance company paid for it, because obviously, it was medically necessary.
Hope this helped. |

cptmac,
Blood in the stool can be caused by a number of things including infectious colitis, hemorrhoids, cancer, inflammatory bowel disease and others. Work with your team of doctors to determine what is your cause. Good luck. _________________ RLee, MD
