Has anyone had ANY experience with the AMACR antibody test used for early Prostate cancer diagnoses.

I have trying to research it and find the information to far above my head to completely understand it and it's role in Prostate cancer detection or treatment.

Anyone ?

chrisz,
I quickly did a internet search, and it seems to be another antigen that is fairly specific for prostate cancer. So when someone has a biopsy of a tissue, this protein marker can be used to help identify prostate cancer versus normal tissue. Some other researchers are trying to use it in a different form as a blood marker for prostate cancer screening. Not sure it is widely used yet, and maybe more in the research phase currently.

Thanks Dr. Lee, that sure makes it more understandable to me.

I hope to talk to my Udoc next week. He is part of the Prostate
Center at EVMS (Eastern Virginia Medical School). I'll see if he
knows about this. I am fairly sure he does.

Just looking for some absolutes. Having multiple biopsy's until
cancer in finally found doesn't sound like a very good way to
go.

I would like to have a test that would absolutely rule out/in
cancer and wonder if this test will do it when available.

Thanks for all the help/advice you have given me and the other
poor souls coming to this forum.
