My wife is 35 years old and has been suffering from a moderate headache located on the top right of her head for fairly constantly for the last 7 months. The headache is accompanied by pain in her cheekbone uner her right eye and occasional ear ache. Initially she was seen by her GP about 5 months ago and he said it was an infection. She has been given 2 lots of anti-biotics which helped with the ear pain but didnt touch the other symptoms. The whole thing began after a cold. Yesterday we attended hospital and she was seen by the consultant who examined her and after looking in her right ear and up her right nostril recommended and M.R.I scan which is booked for the 15th of this month. He also said that the right side of her face looked droopy. This is not correct as her appearance has not changed at all, neither has my wife or any of her friends or family noticed any difference. She has no other symptoms at all and her sight touch and hearing tests were all normal, but I am worried by the consultants rather immediate action and he has not told us anything at all. All he said was "touch-wood it will be nothing. I would really appreciate any coments you have or any other similar experiences, as this is driving me mad but I dont want to lay all my worries on my wife.
Many thanks |

Hello,
We thought my Mom had an inner ear infection and were shocked to find out she had a brain tumor. I would suggest taking her to the ER and they will do a CAT scan. That's how we found out what was going on. Hopefully, she doesn't have something so serious, but the waiting would kill me if I thought something serious was wrong. At least it will ease both of your minds to find out sooner what is going on.
God Bless,

|
|
| My wife saw her GP yesterday and he said the reason he has referred her to the consultant was that he was being careful and checking for Acoustic Neuroma which he said is a non cancerous tumor in the inner ear. She is very nervous today and the MRI is tommorow. On top of this we found out today that she is pregnant as, we have been trying for a second baby for 12 months. I now feel very guilty that I dont feel elated about this as the worry about my wife is masking every other feeling that I have. The good new if there is any is that her doctor says that if she does have this type of tumor then the prognosis is very good, he said if you are going to have a tumor then this is the type that you want to have... |

Hi again,
Just got the results today. The consultant telephoned us himself. The scan was completley normal and we can look forward to having our new baby. My wife is still in constant pain though, and the doctors are still baffled as to what is causing the pain... |

In the past, I have been plauged by headaches that have lasted months. Diagnosis was slow in coming. In the end, we have determined that I am having a type of migraine caused by the muscles contracting and not being able to relax on their own. I have tried many perscriptions to help with the problem--muscle relaxers and migraine meds mixed. Some have been more successful than others. All work best if I can catch it in the early stages. _________________ Michele |

Congrats about the Baby! Glad to hear the MRI came back fine, but I'm sure it is still frustrating not knowing what is causing the headaches, etc. Have you checked with the Eye Doctor. I have severe headaches 2 years ago, constantly, went to MD everything was fine. Tried eye dr. got glasses and everything is fine. Sometimes when you have pain in one place it can trigger other problems just by constant worry. Plus she is pregnant which could be causing some major changes in her body as well. I'm no Doctor, just giving my opinion.
Good Luck, and I look forward to hearing about the Baby and any new info regarding your concerns about your wife's headaches etc. _________________ Nat |
