My Dad just consulted with the Marsden hospital in England about his liver cancer and they said that there is nothing they can do. He originally had an aggressive eye cancer last year and had the eye removed but it spread to his liver. Now they say that he has a matter of months, and if he gets an experimental treatment, all it will do is extend his life by a few weeks but he will feel sick and his last months will be miserable. Is there any course of treatment that has a reasonable chance of success, or it is better to allow him to enjoy the time he has

A very difficult question to answer. The Marsden is one of the best centres, and it would be difficult to suggest that you will find any different answers elsewhere. There is an experimental treatment in Oxford, and it might be worth seeing if they will see him. This sounds like a very grim situation. I'm intrigued as to what the tissue diagnosis might be, especially a cancer that started in the eye. The liver involvement indicates likely metastasis, rather than a primary liver cancer. Your father will need to decide what to do with his most precious asset, time. Only he can decide how he should proceed from here - experimental therapies or palliative care. Best wishes.
