my dad was diagnosed with stomach ca in feb 2006. at the time of diagnosis, the cancer was stage 4.
the bloody doc kept insisting there was nothing that he cud do and asked us to avoid chemo or radiation as it wud cause suffering, but we prevailed upon him and got him to give my dad chemo
he received 6 cycles of chemo over 5 months. then he was taken for surgery where a gastric bypass procedure was performed upon him. after that it was pure hell. he had 1 month of jejunal feeding, then had obstructive jaundice for 2 months for which he underwent additional procedure for stent placement. after all this he again started experiencing the vomiting and inability to retain food. his intake kept reducing day by day and finally in december he cud not take anything, he began vomiting frank bile, apparently the bypass got blocked as well. he was admitted to the hospital on new yrs day and breathed his last in the hospital a couple of wks later.....

my father survived for 11 months after his diagnosis. but the amount of suffering he underwent in this time was horrendous. during his chemo he was permanently nauseated and lost all his hair, even his eyebrows. then came the surgery with all the pain and weakness. and then there was the obstructive jaundice with all the high fevers and chills and then we just went back to square one when the bypass tract got blocked...

i wish everyday that we had gone with the initial advice that we got.... he wud have died in 2 months and wud have avoided 9 months of misery...

my father was the bravest man i have seen... he never got fazed abt anything and wud ride out the toughest days purely on the strength of his will. he approached the cancer with the same optimism and will power, but this miserable disease first broke his spirit, then destroyed his hope, it robbed him of his dignity and finally took him away, his body and soul empty husks where once a brave man lived

i quit my job and nursed him thruout the 11 months and i have explored nearly all avenues of medicine and alternative care.... i dont know what works and what does not...

but i have realised one thing... god is the most cruel and sadistic thing that can ever exist. even the most cruel and deviant of humans cannot devise such an instrument of torture as cancer

You are angry and looking to blame something or someone. God has nothing to do with it. It is nature - cancers come in anything that has cells, whether animal or vegetable.

Direct your anger to supporting those who are seeking ways of resolving the awful problem of a system that has somehow gone wrong.

I am sorry for the pain you have suffered and the agony your father had to go through. Death is not easy for those who have to deal with it, particularly when it is a long drawn-out matter.
