My father was diagnosed with stomach cancer this time last year.
They removed 2/3s of his stomach, and put him on chemo for 6 months..
He now looks very well, good color, and his weight and appetite is as good as ever..
He is going in for his first check up , and they are going to look into his stomach and give him cat scan.. He is very nervous, and a little depressed, but I think that everything should be fine...

One complaint he has since everything has happened, is that his energy level is way down, and he is tired quite a lot..

I just wanted to ask how long it would take for someone to gain their energy levels back after such an ordeal?

My aunt had a similar procedure - I would say her energy level took about a year to be anywhere back to normal, but that she always had to be careful not to over-extend herself. Nevertheless, she visited Australasia and North America, in the process tiring out her younger companions.

Being nervous and depressed before check-ups is common to everyone! If he is eating ok and not losing weight, then he ought to be fine.

I'm afraid she died some years back. She was then 83. Her cancer was diagnosed about 12 or more years ago, but basically she had five good years of life after the operation.

Hi, me again - I also have a friend who had this. He was operated on four years ago, and when I spoke with his wife recently, she said he was doing well and keeping fit. He has to be careful not to get tired, but otherwise has few problems.

Hi, I'm Fathak, 27 yrs. My surgeon removed my total stomach along with lower end Eosophagus and deodenum. This happened in Sep 2005.. chemo 4 cysles, radiation for 5 weeks.. All the hell.. now I'm going great. As you said, once in 3 months I go in for CECT, ultrasound and blood check-ups. Even I was depressed. My surgeon said that the chances of getting back the old weight is highly impossible but now I weigh the same pre-surgery weight. If you put him in proper nutrition then he will feel great in few weeks. put him on more protien- rich diet. My drs wonder how i achieved that. I would say it lies in our mind.. infact I lift heavier weights than I did before treatment. I hope this will give you lotsa confidence.. sharing this with your father will boost his energy level further. pls feel free to ask me for anything... thanks.. Smile Smile Very Happy
