Could someone explain what that number means?

What kinds of tumors are usually present with pancreatic cancer. I was thinking he'd have one large mass but from what we were told it's a ball of fluid filled sacs..so this total has the mass of a 8-9 cm...but it's a bunch of grape sized sacs together. Biopsy of the pancreas is tomorrow. Surgery maybe...I guess they said it tepends on how things go.

I did some reading and I suppose I know what it all means. Just haven't seen people talking that have had the ca 19-9 marker so high.

I wish I knew what these #'s meant also, All i know is that obviously the cancer is progressing in the wrong direction.

My Mother in Law was diagnosed September of 2005 with Stage IV Pancreatic Cancer, we did Chemo tx for almost a Year after recovery from a biliary bypass.

We stopped Chemo as the CA 19-9 started to grow again. We are just doing Pallative care currently. Stopped Chemo this past September 2006
since Sept her markers almost double each month. Today at the Oncologist we found out that this month her markers are 19,600 I asked how high can they go and her oncologist said really high. Well duh! I get no answers from him and he doesnt explain things very well.

Her Pain Level has drastically increased over this past month currently she is taking 500 Mcg Of Duragesic (yes she has 5 patches stuck on her tiny 110# body) along with oxycontin 80mg 2x daily. I just dont know how much more she can take! She is still able to get up and move about the house and fix her small meals.

Anyone that can explain to me the progession of this disease i would appreciate your experiences

Thanks
B K
