dont know where to begin. I'm pretty overwhelmed at this point. I guess being 46 I have no choice except to have my prostate removed. Kind of scared about the after not about the operation. I had a gleason score of 6 assigned. Dr. told me that was most always the case for all his patients that have prostate cancer. He says I need to have a bone scan done to make sure it hasn't spread. This kind of worries me. He said its 90% chance it hasn't, but just to make sure. Any thing you guys could share with me about how to go about some of this stuff would be greatly appreciated. Dave in Charleston, SC!

I was diagnosed in august with prostate cancer. PSA 1.8 gleason 6 Age 42. The bone scan may or may not be accurate, at least that is what they told me. I did not do it.

e-mail me franksguns@comcast more of what is up next.

good luck, my prayers are with you

It's difficult to make any meaningful comment without knowing a full profile, here is some general information which might be of interest:

Bone scans would rarely show anything unless a PSA is over 20, and many doctors regard it as a waste of time for low PSAs.

G6 is the lowest score diagnosed in vast majority recently.

I always suggest reading of the book on PC by Dr Lee Nelson which is very comprehensive and covers diagnosis, treatment options, lifestyle changes etc. There are also other worthwhile books including the one by Dr Scardino on the subject.

Sites worth looking at are www.prostate-cancer.com which has a good treatment guide,

www.yananow.net which has stories from men who have used various treatments. Look under mentors experiences.

One of the newsletters from Johns Hopkins several years ago has a good article under "insignificant cancers" in their winter 2003 newsletter.
