Lopectomy, radical or double redical? We're at the crossroad now.
Could do with some opinions from people that have been there. Wife won't participate. Personally, I think go with the double, the reconstructive.
Then, we need input on which reconstructive would be best. I guess her decision will rest on me, so I'll get all the flack, no matter which way we go. I wonder if I'm even asking the questions she wants answered, but hasn't bothered asking.
Anyway, ANY and ALL input will be apprectiated. _________________ Heartburn IS healthy!

That is a decision that is so personal to her. It is something that she, herself, is going to have to make. I, myself, had bilaterals, because I didn't want to consistently worry about what was going on inside of the other one. I was constantly checking for lumps. I was happy to lose them both and have had no regrets. I had skin-sparing mastectomies, with DIEP reconstruction, which leaves one looking very normal in look and feel. She or you needs to do a lot of research in order to make an informed decision on what reconstruction to have. If she does decide on DIEP...Dr. Craig Merrell is in Tidewater.
If you can't get your wife to participate in the forums, just print out the interesting posts and print them for her to read. If she doesn't want to participate, you really should not push the issue. Give her time. It is something she is going to want to have to do on her own. Best to you.

Thanks for the input. She's in a shell. Oh well, I figure she'll tough it out on her own. Very lethargic and depressed. I'm off to work now. LouAnn will just have to tough it out. _________________ Heartburn IS healthy!

Update, of sorts. She at least looked at this thread and has started talking. Please add any comments you want and she might decide to chime in. Thanks in advance. _________________ Heartburn IS healthy!

Hi LouAnn. I just want you to know that what you are thinking and feeling is so very normal for all of us, at that stage. Being diagnosed with cancer can really knock the wind out of our sails, but having breast cancer is no longer a death sentence. We can live and go on to live near normal lives. I cannot say exactly normal because of changes this disease brings to us.
No one wants to lose their breasts but docs are doing some miracle surgeries nowadays. You can absolutely look very near normal.
I am sorry that you are depressed. Is most of that due to the fact that you don't understand everything that is going on? I can tell you that the more you learn about your disease, the less fear and depression you will have. Have you finished treatments yet? Can you tell us a little more about yourself, as far as your stage, receptor status, grade, etc. It would help us to understand a little more and will help us to provide a little more info.
Keep your chin up. I had a really, really bad pathology, with a very aggressive cancer and I am doing fine, over 4 years later.
Let us hear from you. _________________ Where is the cure???
