My father has Hep C. He contracted it from a blood tranfusion. About a year ago they discovered a tumor on his liver, cirrosis has already started. They used the Radio Frequency ablasion and it seemed successful. Last week he tells us the tumor has started to sprout along the edges of where they burned it out, and there is another tumor larger than this one, but is either oversecting or near the artery.
First he said they would do chemoembolization, but the next day after his visit he said they wanted to put him on a pilot trial of capecitabine and thalidomide for patients with unresectable or mestastic hepatocellular carcinoma. He also said they took him off the transplant list in hopes of shrinking the tumor away from the artery. Does this sound right?????
This sounds like more than just another tumor. My dad is my best friend, and he is young. I need to prepare myself for the worst, but how do I do that if I do not know what it may be?
How long will I have my best friend around? I keep reading 6-9 months.. that can't be right.. can it?
Also, we are looking into maitake fraction d and 1200mg of maitake extract which has shown VERY good results in shrinking breast, lung, liver and more types of cancers!!! Everyone read up on it! |

Loonie, so sorry to hear about your father. I do not know much about liver cancer, but all that you said sound "normal." Taking him off of the transplant list sounds normal both because he his hep C and cancer. Maybe the doctors are thinking that if chemo can shrink the tumor away from the artery, they can the use some other form of therapy to remove the rest.
You are in my prayers and thoughts. _________________ Jim

Thanks so much for replying. I must have checked my post about a million times. I think that they want to shrink it away just for the fact that then there are other treatments available.
Do you have any advice on how to get this off my mind? I have a young child and husband and I cannot stop thinking about this. I see the sun, I wonder if my dad sees it and thinks about it being his last sunset, I see decorations and I wonder if dad will ever see them again. Im only in my 20's and this is taking over my life! Any help as to how I can resume normal activity to keep my mind off this would be so helpful
Again thank you |

Talk about your feelings with someone... find a cancer support group... keep posting here... establish a good support group for yourself. Loonie, you need to take care of yourself. What you are experiencing, most of us caregivers have experienced at one time or another. Give yourself the freedom to grieve... yes... grieve. I know your dad is still living. However, you are facing at least the possibility of his death way before you feel ready for that. So, you are starting to grieve. I grieve with you. My father died of cancer just a couple of months ago. _________________ Jim
