Hi. I have looked at this site on may occasions and read many people's experiences with 'HL'.
I was diagnosed with Nodular Sclorosing Hod. Dis. Type 1 Stage 2a in Dec 1999 and underwent 16 courses of ABVD from Jan-Oct 2000. This had been extended as the first 8 courses were 'not working', so 'booting out' my cheating wife, and 4 more courses the tumor in my chest had 'gone'. I have been having my regular check-ups since and there again today.
I have been having soaking, all over body sweats nightly for about 3 months (jammy top soaking) and sporadic itching to my upper body and arms. No lumps or bumps (or wobbly bits that shouldn't be) but have today been listed for urgent CT scan (within 2 weeks)! I know these sympton's 'can' relate to Hod-Dis, but could it really be back??? Your thought's would be helpful please?
( I am male- 40 next month) |

Hi,
It could be back or not, it could be something else. But if it is back remenber they got it before and they can do it again. Sometimes they don't get it all on the first try. I was diagnosed as hodgkins 3b, I think, in 1972 and they said it was terminal. From head to toe, in the spleen, and liver. My chemo was Mustragen ( nerve gas from WW2) injected IV. I am now 57 and I got to see my children grow up, meet my grandchildren, and I hope to see my greatgrandchildren someday. Never give up, today they have come a long way with a real great CURE Rate for Hodgkins. If you want it bad enough it will work, I am a firm believer in power of the mind. Just enjoy every second of life that you have. I am sure you can do it again. Good luck. I will say a little prayer for you, it never hurts. Just keep thinking positive!

Thanks Hugh... I agree completely that the power of the mind (and a belly full of lovely chemo drugs) CAN do wonders! I'll wait and see what the CT brings up. But whatever it does, I came through it before (even though my marriage was on the rocks) and I can do it again. I just hope the drugs are not as severe again, if they are needed? Congratulations on your attitude to life.. it has obviously help you through years of great family life. I appreciate your prayers. |

| Hi, I found your storey interesting because I to had HL and just had my 6 month checkup. They have found that just after 6 months my cancer has returned. I will be leaving to go away for a few months to have a blood stem call transplant. I am pretty upset it has returned so soon, wasnt expecting it at all, but I am trying to just stay positive and i know I can kick its ass again. I do to really believe in the power of the mind , its totally what helped me get through this the first time. Its hard sometimes to stay positive when u think whoa its back so soon. I wish u luck with your doctors appointment. take care |

Hi Rlene,
I am very sorry to hear about the return of the dreaded 'thing', and my wife and I wish you all the very best in your treatment. I was reading recently about stem cell transfers and just how good they are, the experts are looking at SC's for the treatment of lots of illnesses now-a-days, so they must be good stuff! It looks like you have got the right attittude and feel free to drop me a line anytime for a chat? Regards. |
